The piece advocates for the \u2064enforcement of robust law measures to combat\u200d and prevent such criminal acts.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/commentary\/\">  Commentary <\/a>  <\/p>\n<h2>EV Drivers Pull Up to Charging Station and Quickly Realize They&#8217;re in a Tough Spot<\/h2>\n<p> <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/ccavanaugh\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/ccavanaugh\/%20\"><span>Connor Cavanaugh<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 25, 2024 at 10:41am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>While copper may not be considered a precious metal, that by no means declares it as a useless metal.<\/p>\n<p>So much of modern society relies on the element whether it\u2019s anything electronics, engines or even your own body needing it to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/russian-oligarch-recorded-on-secret-audio-revealing-serious-disease-vladimir-putin-is-allegedly-battling-report\/\" title=\"Russian Oligarch Recorded On Secret Audio Revealing Serious Disease Vladimir Putin Is Allegedly Battling: Report\">make red blood cells<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The simple fact is that we need it.<\/p>\n<p>But need creates demand and that demand creates an opportunity for a quick buck.<\/p>\n<p>Stealing copper is nothing new \u2014 countless criminals have taken advantage of unattended construction sites or remote telephone poles to acquire the metal illegally.<\/p>\n<p>But now there\u2019s a new source of copper for these opportunist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/suspect-charged-murder-car-theft-claims-just-trying-get-work\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thieves<\/a> \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/epa-rolls-evs-stage-huge-event-people-notice-something-wrong\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">electric vehicle<\/a> charging stations.<\/p>\n<p>Countless charging ports across the country, typically in more inner-city areas, are getting their cords cut off.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">VANDALS STRIKE TESLA SUPERCHARGERS IN BAY AREA<\/p>\n<p>Vandals severed every charging cable at a Tesla Supercharger station in Vallejo, California, leaving the facility completely inoperative.<\/p>\n<p>Thieves are likely targeting the copper within the cables.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wgPXFHAxod\">pic.twitter.com\/wgPXFHAxod<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Mario Nawfal (@MarioNawfal) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MarioNawfal\/status\/1790376873865736218?\">May 14, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Will copper theft continue to rise in America?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/719834\/tesla-supercharger-copper-cables-vandalized\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Inside EVs<\/a>, Fresno, CA has seen over 50 of the 88 total charging stations ransacked for their copper wiring, with some being struck multiple times after their repair.<\/p>\n<p>Thieves in Houston, TX, snipped 18 of one station\u2019s 19 charging cords in a single weekend, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/news\/local\/2024\/05\/07\/thieves-steal-high-voltage-tesla-supercharger-cables-from-montrose-charging-station\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click2Houston.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A location in Vallejo, CA, had cables from nine of its charging ports stolen in one night with the thieves netting just shy of twenty cables, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcbayarea.com\/news\/local\/north-bay\/thieves-cut-tesla-cables\/3537241\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC Bay Area<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In all these cases, criminals managed to walk away with thousands of dollars worth of copper and cities were left with tens of thousands of dollars in damages.<\/p>\n<p>While of course <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/liberals-smearing-alito-upside-flag-story-real-point\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">liberals<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/electric-vehicles-could-be-getting-more-expensive-in-florida\/\" title=\"EVs may become pricier in Florida.\">electric vehicle enthusiasts<\/a> such as Inside EVs claim some of the thefts have been tied to an anti-EV agenda, the simple reality is that criminals see a chance to walk away with a little bit of cash at someone else\u2019s expense.<\/p>\n<p>Interviewed by NBC Bay Area, former investigator Josh Beckler suggested the thefts are a sign of how desperate people in the Bay Area have become. The super rich have crowded out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sen-tom-cotton-slams-biden-for-rising-gas-prices-this-is-by-design\/\" title=\"Sen. Tom Cotton Slams Biden for Rising Gas Prices: 'This Is by Design'\">middle class people<\/a> and skyrocketed real estate prices, while employees at some of the richest companies on earth sleep in their cars.<\/p>\n<p>Another circumstance likely compounding the issue is that San Francisco is notoriously lax on crime and has been getting worse for decades. Blights of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/independent-candidate-for-california-governor-talks-progressive-policies-leaving-the-democratic-party-and-the-need-for-pro-human-environmentalism\/\" title=\"Independent Candidate For California Governor Talks Progressive Policies, Leaving The Democratic Party, And The Need For \u2018Pro-Human\u2019 Environmentalism\">open air drug markets<\/a> and homelessness beset the city, while sidewalks collect human excrement at a stupefying rate.<\/p>\n<p>Remember that this is happening in one of the most supposedly socially consciously liberal cities in the world. That raises the question of whether kind, soft-on-crime, easy-on-addiction policies are actually kind at all to so-called victims of society.<\/p>\n<p>The answer, of course, is that policies like those have the exact opposite effect of their <em>stated<\/em> intent. Instead of providing a hand up to lift people out of squalor, blue city policies actually drag people deeper into the mire of drug use, homelessness, and ultimately untimely deaths by refusing to punish activity that is even more destructive to the self than it is to society as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>Consider another location hit hard by this crime \u2013 Houston. For years the Texas city has been run by Democrats. Recently the city\u2019s police chief resigned after thousands of thousands of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/houston-mayor-says-police-chief-probe-thousands-dropped-cases-rcna151430\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">backlogged criminal cases<\/a> going back years surfaced.<\/p>\n<p>As long as cities and towns are populated by fallen people, crime will continue. But there are things we can do \u2013 easy things that require little more than common sense and hard work \u2013 tough on crime policies, police who enforce the law, and prosecutors who ensure that criminals end up isolated from the society they harmed.<\/p>\n<p>Doing those things wouldn\u2019t be a problem except that those voting from the left have a tendency to worry about the oppressed, and modern leftists increasingly insist that much of the criminal class exists because of oppression from \u201cnormies\u201d like you and me.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a lot of irony in this. The same liberals and leftists pushing endlessly for EVs are the ones also creating an environment where pillaging EV chargers becomes a criminal pastime.<\/p>\n<p>Good luck to them all \u2013 the rest of us will take our inexpensive internal combustion engines, inexpensive rubber-hosed gas pumps, and red cities and states where crime is punished and normies are welcome. They can have their 1970s New York.
