Fake accounts spreading false information about the upcoming election are\u200d rapidly\u200b increasing on social media platform X, as highlighted in a social media\u2063 analysis by Reuters. Cyabra, an Israeli tech company, utilized machine learning to uncover these deceptive\u2064 accounts. During their investigation on platform X from March to April, they\u2063 uncovered fake accounts either supporting or\u2064 critiquing President [name].  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p>Fake accounts on the social media platform <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/x\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>X<\/a> that have been spreading false information about the upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>election<\/a> are rapidly proliferating across the platform, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/social-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>social media<\/a> analysis reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/fake-us-election-related-accounts-proliferating-x-study-says-2024-05-24\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><em>Reuters<\/em><\/a>  found. <\/p>\n<p>Cyabra, an Israeli tech company, shared a report in which they used a subset of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/artificial-intelligence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>artificial intelligence<\/a>, called machine learning, to identify fake accounts. <\/p>\n<p>The Israeli company reviewed posts on X from March to April and found that fake accounts praising or attacking President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a> and former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a> exponentially increased over this two-month period. <\/p>\n<p>Cyabra\u2019s analysts found that 15% of those accounts advocating Trump and criticizing Biden were fake, and the same is true for 7% of accounts endorsing Biden and attacking Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, the report revealed that 12,391 out of 94,363 profiles supporting Trump were fake. In contrast, 803 out of 10,065 accounts promoting Biden were found to be inauthentic.<\/p>\n<p>The report also found that those pro-Trump profiles were part of a larger coordinated campaign. They were promoting two messages: \u201cVote for Trump\u201d and \u201cBiden is the worst president the U.S. has ever had.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe level of coordination suggests that there is a nefarious objective and that there is a whole operation in order to change people\u2019s opinion,\u201d Cyabra\u2019s vice president, Rafi Mendelsohn, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/fake-us-election-related-accounts-proliferating-x-study-says-2024-05-24\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><em>Reuters<\/em><\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, fake accounts supporting Biden did not appear to be part of a coordinated effort, the report said, because they lacked specific indicators like simultaneous postings. <\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cyabra\u2019s analysis did not say where the fake accounts were coming from. <\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, the FBI <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/4654941-fbi-warns-of-efforts-by-china-russia-iran-to-influence-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>warned<\/a> that China, Russia, and Iran are among the foreign adversaries that are attempting to influence the 2024 election.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to a social media analysis by Reuters, fake accounts on platform X are multiplying, spreading misinformation about the upcoming election.
