The lawsuit accuses Brown of fundraising \u200dirregularities and \u2064improper \u200chandling of campaign funds, calling for action by\u200c the Federal Election Committee. Sherrod Brown, as well as his fundraising committee and the Ohio Democratic Party.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/65db7681-e755-4cff-abe7-1d9e373df4db.usrfiles.com\/ugd\/65db76_5fc714c50a014f1e9ab01f65a9e8ba6f.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lawsuit<\/a> in the matter was filed in federal court on Wednesday, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/05\/22\/us-news\/ohio-dem-sen-sherrod-brown-accused-of-campaign-finance-violations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The group is accusing Brown of fundraising for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ohio-secretary-state-alerts-democratic-party-brutal-bombshell-leave-bidens-name-off-ballot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ohio\u2019s<\/a> primary election long after the contest ended.<\/p>\n<p>Brown is running for re-election in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ohio-removes-numerous-non-citizens-voter-rolls-calls-biden-administration-take-action\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ohio<\/a> \u2014 a onetime swing state that has increasingly turned solidly red.<\/p>\n<p>The incumbent won 100 percent of the vote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boe.ohio.gov\/summit\/c\/elecres\/20240319results.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">primary<\/a> that was uncontested.<\/p>\n<p>The suit states: \u201cThere is reason to believe contributors to the Brown JFC have been making contributions to the Ohio Democratic Party with knowledge that their funds will be spent on the party\u2019s \u2018get-out-the-vote and voter turnout operation\u2019 explicitly for Sherrod Brown, meaning all amounts contributed to the state party through the Brown JFC must be deemed general-election contributions to Sherrod Brown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The plaintiffs in the lawsuit accuse Ohio Grassroots Victory Fund, a pro-Brown group, of illegally raising money for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/democrats-race-left-pushing-key-swing-state-ohio-firmly-toward-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ohio Democratic Party<\/a> in violation of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971.<\/p>\n<p>Brown\u2019s official campaign committee is Friends of Sherrod Brown.<\/p>\n<p>The foundation points to Brown\u2019s $16 million campaign finance surplus after the uncontested primary as evidence of fundraising improprieties.<\/p>\n<p>The suit further alleges: \u201cFriends of Sherrod Brown reported no debt in connection with his primary election campaign \u2014 which is consistent with the fact that Brown ran unopposed\u2014and a nearly $16 million cash-on-hand surplus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group is calling for the Federal Election Committee to take action against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-sherrod-brown-defends-decision-not-to-endorse-green-new-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brown<\/a> in the matter.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Watchdog Group Calls on FEC to Investigate Sherrod Brown for Alleged Campaign Finance Violations: Sen.
