Harris secured 45% support, surpassing prominent Democratic figures like Gov. Gavin Newsom and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Voter disenchantment with a potential second Biden term is attributed \u200dto concerns about his age and memory lapses. Humanizing her campaign, Harris focuses on rallying the Democratic base around key \u200bissues like abortion.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A new <a href=\"https:\/\/pro-assets.morningconsult.com\/wp-uploads\/2024\/05\/Bloomberg-Election-Tracking-Wave-8-Toplines-Crosstabs.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>poll<\/a> finds Vice President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kamala-harris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Kamala Harris<\/a> is the favorite of swing state voters to lead the Democratic Party should President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a> drop out of the 2024 presidential <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/election-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>election<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Harris received 45% of voters\u2019 support, the highest of key Democratic figures, including\u00a0Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/gavin-newsom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Gavin Newsom<\/a> (D-CA) and Transportation Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/pete-buttigieg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Pete Buttigieg<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) and Buttigieg polled next at 36%, followed by Newsom at 32%, Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD) at 23%, and Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-IL) at 21%. <\/p>\n<p>The report comes as voters become increasingly disenchanted with a second Biden term, citing the 81-year-old\u2019s age and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-health-is-main-concern-for-voters-heading-into-2024\/\" title=\"Voters prioritize Biden's health in 2024\">frequent memory lapses<\/a> as a top concern. <\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/mclaughlinonline.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>McLaughlin &#038; Associates<\/a> survey in February reported that 82% of likely voters found Biden\u2019s \u201cstate of health and his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/editorials\/2842602\/voters-know-biden-not-trump-caused-border-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>mental fitness<\/a>\u201d to be his biggest \u201cweak point.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Harris has ramped up appearances for the Biden campaign, trying to mobilize the Democratic base by molding her platform on what she views as a defining issue of the election: abortion. <\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Vice President Kamala Harris speaks during an event at Discovery World on May 16, 2024, in Milwaukee. The reproductive services organization performs approximately 41% of abortions in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>During an appearance at Central Connecticut State University last year, she referenced the Supreme Court\u2019s landmark decision to overturn <em>Roe v. Wade,<\/em> saying that \u201cthe highest court in our land took a fundamental right from the people of America\u201d and thus galvanized her \u201cto stand and fight for these fundamental rights of freedom and liberty and dignity and choice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added: \u201cIt is now incumbent on us, as the leaders of this moment, to pick up that movement and to do what is necessary to reaffirm, regain, and fight for those rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Bloomberg News\/Morning Consult poll could show gaps in her strategy. When asked how important issues were when deciding who to vote for, the poll found 52% of voters said abortion was very important, while the economy was the top area of concern at\u00a083%. Crime followed at 61%, and immigration topped reproductive rights at 56%. <\/p>\n<p>When asked what the single most important topic was when deciding how to vote, 35% of voters chose the economy.
