The evidence presented to suggest Justice Alito is a right-wing provocateur incapable of serving as an impartial jurist? An \u201cAppeal to Heaven\u201d flag, also known as the Pine Tree flag, with historical roots in the American Revolution, flew outside his New Jersey home on Long Beach Island last summer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast summer, two years after an upside-down American flag was flown outside the Virginia home of Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr., another provocative symbol was displayed at his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-cnn-producers-devices-seized-17-months-prior-to-child-sex-trafficking-arrest\/\" title=\"Report: CNN Producer's Devices Seized 17 Months Prior to Child Sex Trafficking Arrest\">vacation house<\/a> in New Jersey,\u201d the Times reported. \u201cThis time, it was the \u2018Appeal to Heaven\u2019 flag, which, like the inverted U.S. flag, was carried by rioters at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1033766847\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c23f438d0c88f9f9a812b7c0f03f5507 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c23f438d0c88f9f9a812b7c0f03f5507\"><\/div>\n<p>Ah, yes. The flag is considered a symbol of extremism now because a few people carried the flag to the Capitol for an hours-long demonstration three years ago. If only The New York Times applied the same rules to the militant anarchists who terrorized the nation in 2020 under rainbow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/jamiewareham\/2020\/07\/12\/why-lgbt-people-have-started-using-a-new-pride-flag-nhs-black-lives-matters\/?sh=89ae5b8125a1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">banners<\/a> of identity politics.<\/p>\n<p>Will The New York Times publish a follow-up story chronicling the extremism on display at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/feature\/nbc-out\/sanders-pelosi-ocasio-cortez-hang-transgender-pride-flags-congress-n987421\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">congressional offices<\/a> hanging the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrc.org\/resources\/lgbtq-pride-flags\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">progress pride flag<\/a>?\u201d What about at the <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/progress-flag-fly-state-department-1st-time-mark\/story?id=78473193\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">State Department<\/a>? Or <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/web-stories\/teacher-removed-us-flag-from-class-encouraged-students-to-pledge-to-gay-pride-banner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">K-12 classrooms<\/a>? Should the generic rainbow pride flag be considered a symbol of virulent extremism? <\/p>\n<p>No, even if some who drape themselves in the colors act increasingly extreme. The media, however, have a toxic habit of tying the masses to the loudest voices who\u2019ve embraced their respective banners, whether it be a couple of crazy teachers obsessed with virtue signaling or a group of wannabe revolutionaries on Jan. 6.<\/p>\n<p>According to The New York Times, the fabricated flag debacle now drawing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/opinion\/msnbc-opinion\/supreme-court-alito-flag-appeal-to-heaven-meaning-rcna153764\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hysterical<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/the-sad-reality-about-supreme-court-justice-samuel-alitos-flag-revelations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">headlines<\/a> across the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/05\/22\/politics\/alito-flag-new-york-times\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">corporate press<\/a> demands Justice Alito recuse himself from several high-profile cases central to thwarting Donald Trump\u2019s third bid for the White House. Last week, the Times published a separate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/05\/16\/us\/justice-alito-upside-down-flag.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">story<\/a> highlighting an upside-down flag signaling a nation in distress three <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sponsor-of-j6-show-trial-watch-party-demanded-soft-treatment-for-lawyers-who-firebombed-nypd-car\/\" title=\"Sponsor Of J6 Show Trial Watch Party Demanded Soft Treatment For Lawyers Who Firebombed NYPD Car\">years ago amid<\/a> the turbulent month of President Joe Biden\u2019s inauguration. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-8dc25c04d745fea53b1d066a5470d1ac fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-8dc25c04d745fea53b1d066a5470d1ac\"><\/div>\n<p>The manipulated flag, however, was flown by Alito\u2019s wife following an argument with a neighbor over a profane anti-Trump sign, and there is no evidence to the contrary. Even if the justice had hung the flag himself, it would be <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/20\/i-researched-judicial-ethics-rules-for-years-heres-why-the-alito-recusal-calls-are-ridiculous\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">no grounds<\/a> for recusal. Still, the most dangerous aspect of the New York Times\u2019 latest flag hysteria isn\u2019t even the attacks on the Supreme Court, but the politicization of patriotism itself.<\/p>\n<p>Alito\u2019s banner to \u201cAppeal to Heaven\u201d was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanflags.com\/blog\/post\/an-appeal-to-heaven-flag-meaning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">designed<\/a> by George Washington\u2019s personal secretary and was adopted by the colonial military in 1775, becoming the official flag of the Massachusetts Navy in 1776. The text was inspired by British political philosopher John Locke, whose ideas became the foundation for American independence. According to The New York Times, \u201cJustice Alito declined to respond to questions about the beach house flag, including what it was intended to convey and how it comported with his obligations as a justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The fact The New York Times is writing to millions of readers who likely live in online echo chambers that the Pine Tree flag \u201cconveys\u201d anything <em>but <\/em>a patriotic message of democratic resilience warrants an American flag flown in distress on its own. And it\u2019s not just the Pine Tree flag that\u2019s now written off as an overt symbol of extremism. Just about every other <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/24\/the-top-11-flags-you-should-fly-to-trigger-communist-enemies-of-the-people\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">flag <\/a>with historical roots in the American fight for independence has now become the target of far-left attacks as banners of radical opposition. A nation steeped in self-hatred, where patriotism itself is written off as extreme, will not survive as a governable nation. And even if the nation does survive, it won\u2019t be \u201cunited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s Gallup poll <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/507980\/extreme-pride-american-remains-near-record-low.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> the number of U.S. adults who say they are \u201cextremely proud\u201d to be American remains near a record low, at just 39 percent. The number is down more than 30 percent from 20 years ago, when 70 percent said they were \u201cextremely proud\u201d to be American. One would hope that number will be 100 percent on Monday, when the nation collectively remembers the nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbsun.com\/2024\/05\/24\/professing-faith-memorial-day-is-for-reflection-and-prayers-for-those-who-died-in-military-service\/#:~:text=According%20to%20modern%20historians%2C%20based,have%20been%20more%20since%202019.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1.4 million<\/a> who died in service of our country. Meanwhile, Flag Day is approaching on June 14.
