Whistleblowers point to Jennifer Lucero, the dean\u2064 of admissions, for controversial decisions. Key \u2062whistleblowers have identified Jennifer Lucero, the dean of admissions, for making contentious choices. These\u2064 decisions \u200bhave led to a notable decline \u2063in rankings\u200d and an elevated rate \u200dof students failing\u2063 medical competency tests at the institution.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Students at one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-crt-nonsense-has-infiltrated-medical-schools\/\" title=\"The CRT Nonsense Has Infiltrated Medical Schools\">top medical schools<\/a> in the country are failing basic medical competency tests \u2013 and whistleblowers at the school are blaming affirmative action policies.<\/p>\n<p>Some faculty members shared emails and other information with <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/a-failed-medical-school-how-racial-preferences-supposedly-outlawed-in-california-have-persisted-at-ucla\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Washington Free Beacon<\/a>, which revealed that the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/university-of-california-ends-act-sat-testing-for-admissions-and-scholarships\/\" title=\"University of California Ends ACT, SAT Testing For Admissions And Scholarships\">admitting students based<\/a> on race over merit, a practice that has been illegal in California since 1996. The outlet based its report on \u201cwritten correspondence between UCLA officials, internal data on student performance, and interviews with eight professors at the medical school\u2014six of whom have worked with or under Lucero on medical student and residency admissions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The result of the alleged race-based admissions policies has led to a marked increase in the number of students failing basic standardized tests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have students on their rotation who don\u2019t know anything,\u201d a member of the admissions committee told the\u00a0Free Beacon. \u201cPeople get in and they struggle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those who spoke to the Free Beacon placed the blame largely on Jennifer Lucero, who took over as the dean of admissions in 2020. In one example of the school allowing someone in based on race and not merit, Lucero reportedly became angry with another admissions officer who questioned whether the school should let in a black applicant whose grades and test scores were far below the school\u2019s average.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you not know African-American women are dying at a higher rate than everybody else?\u201d Lucero reportedly asked, adding that \u201cwe need people like this in the medical school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The outburst concerned other admissions officials, prompting one to reach out to other committee members and to wonder \u201cif this applicant had been [a] white male, or [an] Asian female for that matter, [whether] we would have had that much discussion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The same question had been raised since Lucero began her role as head of the medical school\u2019s admissions in 2020. Since then, the school has dropped from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uclahealth.org\/news\/release\/national-ranking-places-david-geffen-school-of-medicine-at-ucla-6-in-research-11-in-primary-care\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">6th<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/best-graduate-schools\/top-medical-schools\/university-of-california-los-angeles-04010#:~:text=University%20of%20California%2D%2DLos%20Angeles%20(Geffen)%202023%2D2024,Medical%20Schools%3A%20Research%20and%20No.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">18th<\/a> place in the U.S. News &#038; World Report\u2019s rankings for medical research, and as many as 50% of students are failing basic standardized tests on emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics. Large percentages are also failing basic tests in neurology, obstetrics\/gynecology, and surgery as well.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1716644858001000&#038;usg=AOvVaw3bj36IVNtNrBzgK6q6NlAl\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Nationally, an average of 5% of students fail each test.<\/p>\n<p>Professors told the Free Beacon that students simply aren\u2019t prepared for the school. One told the outlet that a student in an operating room couldn\u2019t identify a major artery when asked, and then berated the professor for asking her in front of everyone. Another professor said students finishing up their clinical rotations didn\u2019t know basic lab tests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know how some of these students are going to be junior doctors,\u201d the professor told the Free Beacon. \u201cFaculty are seeing a shocking decline in knowledge of medical students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One admissions officer told the outlet that double standards in admissions are largely to blame.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the normal criteria for getting into medical school only apply to people of certain races,\u201d an admissions officer said. \u201cFor other people, those criteria are completely disregarded.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Four people who served on the admissions committee told the Free Beacon that the committee regularly admits black and Latino applicants with below-average GPAs and test scores, while white and Asian applicants must be near perfect to be considered.<\/p>\n<p>Six people who\u2019ve worked with Lucero told the outlet that she retaliates against those who question the qualifications of minority candidates, calling them \u201cprivileged\u201d and throwing out accusations of racism. She\u2019s even forced dissenters to take diversity training sessions for the alleged transgressions.<\/p>\n<p>Lucero, who is also the vice chair for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) for UCLA\u2019s anesthesiology department, has refused to use blind admissions, saying that even though California bans the use of racial preference in admissions, \u201cwe are not required to blind any information.\u201d She\u2019s also directly advocated for moving candidates up or down the residency rank based on their race, the Free Beacon reported.<\/p>\n<p>Adam Mortara, who was the lead trial lawyer for the plaintiffs in <em>Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard<\/em>, the landmark Supreme Court case that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/california-reparations-task-force-tries-to-revive-discrimination-idea-voters-rejected\/\" title=\"Californian task force revives rejected discrimination idea for reparations.\">banned affirmative action<\/a>, told the outlet that Lucero\u2019s statements in emails could cause a legal issue for UCLA. Asking for information about a candidate\u2019s race without any lawful cause is \u201cpresumptively illegal,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t have evidence of overt discrimination like this and not have someone come forward\u201d to sue, he added.<\/p>\n<p>Several complaints have been filed against Lucero to UCLA\u2019s Discrimination Prevention Office, but no action has been taken.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Whistleblowers at a renowned medical school point to affirmative action policies for a high rate of students failing basic medical competency tests.
