Athletes, who were once forbidden from receiving any kind of compensation, have reaped the financial benefits of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/ncaa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>National Collegiate Athletics Association<\/a> permitting NIL (name, image, and likeness) deals. <\/p>\n<p>College <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/sports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>sports<\/a> is evolving quickly, and the changes happening within it are especially true after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senate-expected-to-push-build-back-better-vote-into-2022\/\" title=\"Senate Expected To Push Build Back Better Vote Into 2022\">multiple outlets reported<\/a> on Thursday evening that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/story\/_\/id\/40206469\/ncaa-settlement-pay-college-players-analysis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NCAA agreed to pay<\/a> its athletes as part of a resolution to three lingering antitrust lawsuits. <\/p>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/sports\/ncaa-signs-deal-change-landscape-college-sports-paying-student-athlete-rcna153852\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NCAA\u2019s Board of Governors and commissioners from the country\u2019s five biggest conferences <\/a>(collectively known as the Power Five) agreed to implement a revenue-sharing model of financial compensation that would effectively eliminate the amateur competition model that existed within the NCAA for decades. The restructuring is part of the settlement stemming from multiple antitrust lawsuits totaling around $2.8 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The funds would be dispersed over the next decade to over 14,000 former and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-ncaa-is-not-above-the-law-brett-kavanaugh-rips-ncaa-in-landmark-case\/\" title=\"\u2018The NCAA Is Not Above The Law\u2019: Brett Kavanaugh Rips NCAA In Landmark Case\">current college athletes<\/a>, <em>NBC News<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe five autonomy conferences and the NCAA agreeing to settlement terms is an important step in the continuing reform of college sports that will provide benefits to student-athletes and provide clarity in college athletics across all divisions for years to come,\u201d leaders from the Power Five conference and the NCAA announced in a joint statement. \u201cThis settlement is also a road map for college sports leaders and Congress to ensure this uniquely American institution can continue to provide unmatched opportunity for millions of students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, <em>NBC News<\/em> it is believed that the payments could be distributed as early as 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis landmark settlement will bring college sports into the 21st century, with college athletes finally able to receive a fair share of the billions of dollars of revenue that they generate for their schools,\u201d said Steve Berman, a lead attorney for the plaintiffs in the case. \u201cOur clients are the bedrock of the NCAA\u2019s multibillion-dollar business and finally can be compensated in an equitable and just manner for their extraordinary athletic talents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NCAA and Power Five conference chairs called the financial agreement a \u201croad map\u201d that would define the \u201cnext chapter of college sports.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The original lawsuit was filed by two student-athletes, one former and one current, who claimed that the NCAA made millions of dollars off the work of college athletes but prohibited them from earning endorsement money, <em>NBC News<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the first time in history, we will\u00a0now\u00a0have a fair and just economic system for college athletes. I could not be more delighted.
