Jeff Landry.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, the Louisiana state House approved the bill, leading Vice President Kamala Harris to post on X: \u201cAbsolutely unconscionable. The Louisiana House just passed a bill that would criminalize the possession of medication abortion, with penalties of up to several years of jail time. Let\u2019s be clear: Donald Trump did this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Landry then posted his reply.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know you\u2019re doing something right when @KamalaHarris criticizes you. This bill protects expectant mothers while also allowing these drugs to be prescribed to those with a valid prescription. Anthony Pro-Life America <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/vile-biden-comes-fire-invoking-jesus-promoting-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">supported the bill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdding abortion drugs to the controlled substance list should be uncontroversial. Like morphine and Valium, the drugs in question will still be available for prescription for legitimate medical reasons \u2014 like miscarriage care \u2014 but will be harder for abusers to obtain,\u201d Caitlin Connors, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/obama-appointed-judge-hands-planned-parenthood-crushing-blow-delivers-major-win-for-pro-life\/\" title=\"Obama-appointed judge delivers major blow to Planned Parenthood, hands victory to pro-life movement.\">southern regional director<\/a> of the organization, said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/05\/21\/politics\/louisiana-house-bill-abortion-drugs-controlled-substances\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The bill would make it a felony with up to five years in prison and fines of up to $5,000 for anyone found in possession of the drugs without a valid prescription. \u00a0Distribution or possession with intent to distribute Schedule IV drugs, which the drugs would be if Landry signs the bill, could result in up to 10 years in prison and fines as high as $15,000.<\/p>\n<p data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clwh1w9d800083b6jkow45fyx@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\" data-analytics-observe=\"off\">The legislation includes an exemption for pregnant women who have the drugs for their own use. Doctors can legally prescribe the drugs, which are used in first-term abortions but also can be used in the treatment of miscarriages.<\/p>\n<p data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clwh1w9d900093b6jrmdq5gyy@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\" data-analytics-observe=\"off\">The House added the designation as an amendment when considering a Senate bill that made it a crime to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/california-bill-seeks-to-provide-abortions-trans-treatment-in-states-where-its-banned-with-new-bill-protecting-doctors\/\" title=\"California Bill Seeks To Provide Abortions, Trans Treatment In States Where It\u2019s Banned With New Bill Protecting Doctors\">give abortion medication<\/a> to a woman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/evangelical-voters-concerned-immigration-sovereignty-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">without her consent<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Republican state Sen. Thomas Pressly said he proposed the bill after his sister was given misoprostol without her consent.
