He emphasized the significance of\u200d tightening election\u200b protocols to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/9-key-points-from-trump-campaign-press-conference-on-challenges-to-election-results\/\" title=\"9 Key Points from Trump Campaign Press Conference on Challenges to Election Results\">safeguard<\/a> the voting system.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p>House Speaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mike-johnson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Mike Johnson<\/a> (R-LA) laid out his plans to roll back a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/voting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>voting<\/a> law in Washington, D.C., which he warned allows noncitizens to vote in local elections.<\/p>\n<p>House Republicans are set to bring up <a href=\"https:\/\/rules.house.gov\/bill\/118\/hr-192\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>HR 192<\/a> for a vote on Thursday, which would override a local law in the District of Columbia and prevent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/illegal-immigrants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>noncitizens<\/a> from voting in local elections. Johnson explained that this bill is part of the Republican Party\u2019s larger effort to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/liz-cheney-says-will-campaign-for-democrats-leave-republican-party-if-trump-is-2024-nominee\/\" title=\"Liz Cheney Says Will Campaign for Democrats, Leave Republican Party If Trump Is 2024 Nominee\">improve election security<\/a>, and that this current law is problematic due to how it allows people who live in the Washington, D.C., area for at least 30 days to vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat means Russian spies, it means Chinese officials, it means enemies of freedom could help decide who the mayor is in D.C. and who the council is,\u201d Johnson said on Fox News\u2019s <em>The Faulkner Focus<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The speaker described this as \u201ca real problem,\u201d and one that could become more serious if it is applied nationwide. He argued that if even 1 million illegal immigrants choose to get registered to vote, it would change the course of both presidential elections and congressional elections.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson also discussed <a href=\"https:\/\/roy.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/rep-roy-leads-fight-save-american-elections\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act<\/a>, which House Republicans are planning to introduce once the Memorial Day holiday is over.
