Attorney General Merrick Garland advocates breaking \u2064up the company due to its significant market control.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p>After a yearlong investigation, the <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/doj\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Department of Justice<\/a> announced it has filed a lawsuit against Live Nation and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/999462\/ticketmaster-responds-to-unprecedented-ticket-sales-for-taylor-swift-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Ticketmaster\">Ticketmaster<\/a> for breaking <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/antitrust\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>antitrust laws<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The event sales company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/justice-department-sues-live-nation-ticketmaster-monopolizing-markets-across-live-concert\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"stands accused of violating\">stands accused of violating<\/a> Section 2 of the Sherman Act, due to allegations of acquiring competing event promoters and forcing venues and artists alike into exclusionary contracts for as long as 10 years in some cases. Attorney General Merrick Garland claimed it controls 80% of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/9-horror-movie-cliches-that-need-to-die\/\" title=\"9 Horror Movie Cliches That Need to Die\">ticket sales<\/a> to major concert venues, has contracts with 400 entertainers, and owns or controls 60% of amphitheaters. As a result, Garland said, \u201cIt is time to break it up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe allege that Live Nation relies on unlawful, anticompetitive conduct to exercise its monopolistic control over the live events industry in the United States at the cost of fans, artists, smaller promoters, and venue operators,\u201d Garland said at a news conference Thursday. \u201cThe result is that fans pay more in fees, artists have fewer opportunities to play concerts, smaller promoters get squeezed out, and venues have fewer real choices for ticketing services.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joining in on the lawsuit are 30 state and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/2-million-guns-sold-in-august-49th-straight-month-of-over-1-million-sales\/\" title=\"August saw the sale of 2 million guns, marking the 49th consecutive month with over 1 million sales.\">district attorneys general<\/a>. They are seeking structural relief in addition to a forced split of Ticketmaster from its recently acquired subsidies.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after Tickmaster\u2019s site saw its ticket <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/taylor-swift-ticketmaster-crashes-for-users-site-hit-outages-on-release\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>presales<\/a> for Taylor Swift\u2019s \u201cThe Eras Tour\u201d was condemned by many, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/taylor-swift-fans-sue-live-nation-over-eras-tour-ticket-presale-fiasco\/\" title=\"Taylor Swift Fans Sue Live Nation Over \u2018Eras Tour\u2019 Ticket Presale Fiasco\">general sale<\/a> for the tour was ultimately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/ticketmaster-cancels-general-sale-taylor-swift-lawmakers-target\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>canceled<\/a> altogether.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe knew a record number of fans wanted tickets to Taylor\u2019s tour,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/business.ticketmaster.com\/business-solutions\/taylor-swift-the-eras-tour-onsale-explained\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ticketmaster\u2019s statement about the incident in 2022<\/a> began, which it published in an attempt to explain the situation.
