The fighter jets reportedly carried out mock strikes against \u201chigh-value military targets.\u201d China said the military drills will continue for two days.<\/p>\n<p>Taiwan\u2019s Defense Ministry called China\u2019s aggression \u201cirrational provocations and actions that undermine regional peace and stability.\u201d Taiwan is a self-governing island that the Chinese Communist Party claims is part of its territory while continuing to threaten a takeover of the nation home to over 23 million people. Taiwan\u2019s Defense Ministry said it responded to China\u2019s hostility by dispatching air, sea, and ground forces, according to CNN.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe stand by with firm will and restraint. We seek no conflicts, but we will not shy away from one. Lai, a member of the Democratic Progressive Party, has been an advocate for Taiwan\u2019s independence and says that \u201cTaiwan is already a sovereign, independent country called the Republic of China.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The tensions between the CCP and Taiwan also concern U.S. leaders as over 100 American troops are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/world\/asia\/taiwan-acknowledges-presence-of-u-s-troops-on-outlying-islands-c81c3b6b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stationed<\/a> on the island, providing training for Taiwanese soldiers.
