Sara Haines&#8217; comments on &#8220;The View&#8221; created a stir by differentiating &#8220;devout Catholics&#8221; from Latin Mass attendees, labeling the latter as &#8220;cult-like and extremist.&#8221; \u200dThis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fact-check-did-elon-musk-fire-twitters-board-of-directors\/\" title=\"FACT CHECK: Did Elon Musk Fire Twitter\u2019s Board Of Directors?\">sparked conversations<\/a> on Catholic values, societal impact, and the \u200cdivisions within the community,\u2064 shedding light on contrasting beliefs and perceptions.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>Sara Haines made some <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NickFondacaro\/status\/1791126180336193659\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explosive comments<\/a> on \u201cThe View\u201d\u00a0last week when she forcefully distinguished between \u201cdevout Catholics\u201d and \u201csomeone who is practicing \u2026 the Latin Mass.\u201d The latter, she explained, is \u201ccult-like and extremist, like some religions in the Middle East and Asia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her comments were in response to Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-JS7RIKSaCc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">commencement speech<\/a> at a Catholic college in which he encouraged the graduates to seek out the Traditional Latin Mass, which he devotedly attends. This is the Roman Rite as it has been practiced for centuries before liturgical reforms in the 1960s made it rare, but never, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/benedict-xvi\/en\/letters\/2007\/documents\/hf_ben-xvi_let_20070707_lettera-vescovi.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pope Benedict XVI reminded us<\/a>, abrogated. Catholics and converts alike have been rediscovering it in recent years, and attendance has been <a href=\"https:\/\/catholicvote.org\/families-flock-latin-mass-despite-vatican-limitations\/#:~:text=In%20short%2C%20the%20rate%20of,the%20TLM%20was%20dramatically%20increasing.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rapidly increasing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-313962062\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-93e79b71eaf256d8e26f2f331ef8ed68 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-93e79b71eaf256d8e26f2f331ef8ed68\"><\/div>\n<p>So what makes Butker such an extremist? Does he advocate for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fairplanet.org\/story\/3-countries-where-sharia-law-is-hardest-on-women\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shariah law<\/a>? The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/news\/jewish-students-hid-in-nyc-college-library-as-pro-palestinian-protesters-banged-on-doors-called-for-intifada\/amp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">harassment of Jews<\/a> on campus? Let me recount some of the boldest points from his speech: He warned against gender ideology. He criticized Biden for proudly proclaiming to be Catholic while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/archbishop-cordileone-i-had-conversations-with-pro-abortion-pelosi-about-holy-communion\/\" title=\"Archbishop Cordileone: I Had \u2018Conversations\u2019 With Pro-Abortion Pelosi About Holy Communion\">publicly supporting abortion<\/a>. He lamented that church leaders let people die alone during Covid regulations. He warned of the tyranny of diversity, equity, and inclusion over free speech.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps most inflammatory of all, he used the word \u201chomemaker\u201d and encouraged young women to prioritize their marriages and children over worldly success and material gain. This advice was extended to the men in the room as he tearfully praised his own wife for reminding him to do the same: \u201cShe\u2019s the one who ensures I never let football or my business become a distraction from that of a husband and father.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Butker\u2019s statements in his commencement speech were no more foreign or extreme than the medieval garb that he and millions of others donned on graduation stages all over the West this spring. Indeed, the left isn\u2019t terrified of the Latin Mass because of its medieval optics. They could not care less about the theological debates that truly divide us in our liturgical practices.<\/p>\n<p>Rather, they want to destroy the family values that undergird the Judeo-Christian West in all its forms. These are not the preserve of Latin Mass Catholics or even Catholics generally. They belong to us all as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/police-officer-rips-lebron-demagoguery-against-police-officers-ends-up-hurting-minorities-in-long-run\/\" title=\"Police Officer Rips LeBron: \u2018Demagoguery Against Police Officers\u2019 Ends Up Hurting Minorities In Long Run\">decent human beings<\/a>. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-304edd1e0a68c192668e71e00a697bee fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-304edd1e0a68c192668e71e00a697bee\"><\/div>\n<p>Portraying Latin Mass Catholics as a tiny minority diverging from the majority of Catholics glosses over the fact that we are talking about basic biblical principles here. Thou shall not kill. Male and female, He created them. Husbands, honor your wives and, wives, submit to your husbands. Comfort the dying and the sick. Walk in the light of truth.<\/p>\n<p>It is easy to attack Latin Mass Catholics because they are so distinct. They might wear lace or funny hats. They pray in a dead language, and some make an awful lot of noise on Twitter. More importantly, they\u2019re considerably more likely to adhere to biblical morality. Consider that 99 percent of <a href=\"https:\/\/onepeterfive.com\/new-survey-shows-disparity-of-beliefs-between-latin-mass-novus-ordo-catholics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Latin Mass Catholics<\/a> attend Mass weekly, only 2 percent approve of same-sex marriage, and 1 percent approve of abortion.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, a mere <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2024\/04\/12\/9-facts-about-us-catholics\/#:~:text=Overall%2C%2020%25%20of%20U.S.%20Catholics,all%20important%20in%20their%20life.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">28 percent<\/a> of Catholics generally attend Mass weekly. It is misleading to point to the \u201dmajority of Catholics,\u201d as Haines did, for Catholic norms when a whopping 72 percent aren\u2019t even practicing their faith by fulfilling their Sunday obligation. Of the small number of Catholics generally who do attend Mass weekly, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/322805\/catholics-backed-sex-marriage-2011.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">56 percent<\/a> approve of same-sex marriage, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2022\/05\/23\/like-americans-overall-catholics-vary-in-their-abortion-views-with-regular-mass-attenders-most-opposed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">26 percent<\/a> approve of abortion in most cases. These numbers reveal that Latin Mass Catholics are steadfast, and so a threat to our godless elite.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, the left has started targeting Latin Mass Catholics as a scapegoat. Others may breathe easily for now, but never forget that the left loves to marginalize by terms, and they will ever expand what it means to be an \u201cextremist\u201d to chase all Christian morality out of the public square. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-8432081035858d409f2d510e67fed3c3 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-8432081035858d409f2d510e67fed3c3\"><\/div>\n<p>The groundwork for Haines\u2019 attempt to sideline Butker has been laid out over the past few years with the left\u2019s seemingly innocuous fascination with growing Latin Mass attendance. They have separated normal Catholic teaching from public perception of Catholics generally. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/11\/15\/us\/latin-mass-revival.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New York Times<\/a>, for example, relished the pitting of Latin Mass attendees against their own pope \u2014 a narrative that Haines parroted on \u201cThe View,\u201d apparently ignorant of the complexity of papal authority and liturgical reforms. <\/p>\n<p>But what was the most extreme thing the NYT expose could dig up? Traditional priests preach the sanctity of life from the pulpit. Yawn. This is hardly divergent from the majority of actively practicing Catholics. <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/catholic-church-shift-orthodoxy-tradition-7638fa2013a593f8cb07483ffc8ed487\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Associated Press<\/a> covered a similar story just last month.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, we\u2019ve seen a marginalization by terms most prominently in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tennessee-introduces-bill-allowing-fathers-to-prevent-an-abortion\/\" title=\"Tennessee Introduces Bill Allowing Fathers To Prevent An Abortion\">abortion debate<\/a>. Pro-abortion Catholic politicians, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10288243\/Biden-goes-Mass-heading-Kansas-City-promote-infrastructure.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Biden<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10269425\/Devout-Catholic-Nancy-Pelosi-says-BACKING-abortion-shouldnt-political-issue.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pelosi<\/a>, are portrayed as ordinary, devout, or even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/biden-catholic-bishops\/2021\/06\/18\/acf576c0-d04a-11eb-a7f1-52b8870bef7c_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cdeeply Catholic\u201d<\/a> Catholics, as if belief in the sanctity of life were somehow optional for a Catholic. Meanwhile, pro-life Catholics are dismissed as traditionalists, that is, extremists.<\/p>\n<p>Haines has made the word game clear. She\u2019s all for the free speech of Catholics, just not Catholics like Butker. Only we need not even discuss the moral issues, now it is enough to invoke the Latin Mass. It distracts people from what they are actually criticizing.<\/p>\n<p>The left\u2019s Latin Mass phobia has the troubling consequence of fomenting real actions against the religious right. The FBI has already used its power to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/09\/unredacted-fbi-memo-contradicts-christopher-wrays-claim-only-a-single-field-office-targeted-traditional-catholics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">target Latin Mass chapels<\/a> because of the supposed threat of \u201cRadical-Traditionalist Catholics.\u201d And, of course, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/pro-life-activist-facing-11-years-prison-peaceful-protest-makes-felon-bidens-doj\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Biden\u2019s Department of Justice<\/a> has been persecuting pro-life activists for peaceful protest. It appears we are just a few steps behind <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/05\/18\/opinion\/canadas-moving-to-end-free-speech-with-new-bill\/#:~:text=When%20it%20comes%20to%20Canadian,some%20of%20the%20law's%20provisions.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">our northern neighbors<\/a> in regulating Christian thought crimes with anti-speech bills that reward snitching on friends and family and impose life sentences for online hate speech.<\/p>\n<p>So are believers like Butker diverging from Christianity, or are the loud voices on the left trying to shove us all into a <a href=\"https:\/\/crisismagazine.com\/opinion\/the-spiritual-abuse-continues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ghetto \u201cwith a match at the ready\u201d to burn it down<\/a>?
