Vance and the American Dream\">defend traditional values<\/a>, was defended by coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/star-actress-comes-defense-harrison-butker-nothing-offensive-said\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">graduation speech<\/a>, Butker criticized \u201cdiversity, equity and inclusion\u201d efforts as \u201ctyranny,\u201d called out President Joe Biden for supporting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/women-found-loophole-get-abortions-despite-state-bans-numbers-getting-worse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abortion<\/a> and suggested that female graduates would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/star-actress-comes-to-the-defense-of-harrison-butker-nothing-offensive-about-what-he-said\/\" title=\"Actress Supports Harrison Butker, Rejects Offense Claim\">find greater fulfillment<\/a> through marriage and motherhood than in careers. Attacking so-called \u201cpride month,\u201d he also said the students should take \u201cpride\u201d in their institution, rather than \u201cthe deadly sins sort of pride that has an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/target-preemptively-pulls-reins-pride-month-wake-last-years-backlash\/\">entire month<\/a> dedicated to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although the comments triggered a vast reaction, Mahomes and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/travis-kelce-andy-reid-speak-physical-sideline-confrontation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reid<\/a> shrugged off the fuss.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">JUST IN: Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid and QB Patrick Mahomes strongly defend kicker Harrison Butker for his pro-traditional values speech.<\/p>\n<p>Reid even shot back after one reporter tried claiming that Butker was speaking \u201cill\u201d of women.<\/p>\n<p>Mahomes: \u201cI\u2019ve known [Harrison] for\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Lj9Hm8XLCv\">pic.twitter.com\/Lj9Hm8XLCv<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Collin Rugg (@CollinRugg) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CollinRugg\/status\/1793365394654417064?\">May 22, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI know Harrison,\u201d Mahomes said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CollinRugg\/status\/1793365394654417064\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">video posted to X<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019ve known him for seven years, and I judge him by the character that he shows every single day, and that\u2019s a good person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s someone who cares about the people around him, cares about his family and wants to make a good impact in society,\u201d he added. \u201cWhen you\u2019re in the locker room, there\u2019s a lot of people from a lot of different areas of life, and they have a lot of different views on everything. And we\u2019re not always gonna agree.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mahomes said the team does not think in lockstep.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s certain things that he said that I don\u2019t necessarily agree with, but I understand the person that he is, and he\u2019s trying to do whatever he can to try to lead people in the right direction,\u201d he commented.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Do you stand with Harrison Butker?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cAnd that might not be the same values as I have, but at the same time, I\u2019m gonna judge him by the character that he shows every day, and that\u2019s a great person,\u201d Mahomes continued. \u201cWe\u2019ll continue to move along and try to help build each other up to make ourselves better every single day. But at the end of the day, we\u2019re gonna come together as a team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mahomes said diversity of thought is a positive, not a negative.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou make your own decisions at the end of the day, and I think that\u2019s what makes this country so great,\u201d Mahomes said, noting that \u201cit gets a little divisive sometimes when you get to social media.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reid offered similar reflections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe guys are good with that. They understand,\u201d he said. \u201cThey understand how things work. I mean, everybody\u2019s got their own opinion, and that\u2019s what\u2019s so great about this country. You can share those things and you work through it, and that\u2019s what guys do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t talk to him about this. I didn\u2019t think we needed to,\u201d Reid added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re a microcosm of life here. We\u2019re from different areas, different religions, different races, and so we all get along,\u201d he said. \u201cWe all respect each other\u2019s opinions, and not necessarily do we go by those, but we respect everybody to have a voice. It\u2019s a great thing about America, man. And we\u2019re just, like I said, a microcosm of that, and my wish is that everybody could kinda follow that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One reporter asked Reid about how female employees of the Chiefs might feel about the speech, suggesting Butker spoke \u201cill\u201d of women.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat hasn\u2019t happened,\u201d Reid replied.\u00a0\u201cI don\u2019t think he was speaking ill to women. But he has his opinions, and we all respect that. I let you guys in this room, and you have a lot of opinions that I don\u2019t like.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NFL responded to critics by saying Butker issued his remarks \u201cin his personal capacity\u201d and that his views do not align with those held by the league.
