The\u2062 coach stood firm against \u200dnegative interpretations of Butker&#8217;s views, \u2062promoting\u2063 mutual respect and understanding among team members.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/kansas-city-chiefs-overtime-victory-over-the-49ers-takes-spot-as-most-watched-super-bowl-ever\">Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/travis-kelce-sort-of-apologizes-for-body-checking-andy-reid-admits-to-crossing-a-line\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andy Reid<\/a> and star quarterback <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/patrick-mahomes-reveals-how-chiefs-players-initially-reacted-to-travis-kelce-taylor-swift-romance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Patrick Mahomes<\/a> finally broke their silence about the team\u2019s kicker Harrison Butker \u2014 and defended him <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/elon-musk-i-got-a-covid-test-four-times-in-one-day-two-came-back-negative-two-came-back-positive-the-daily-wire\/\" title=\"Elon Musk: I Got A COVID Test Four Times In One Day. \u2018Two Came Back Negative, Two Came Back Positive.\u2019 | The Daily Wire\">amid<\/a> the attacks from the left over his commencement speech.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/live\/wXvi5ttZfwY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press conference<\/a> on Wednesday, Reid and the Super Bowl-winning QB answered questions about the off-field distractions surrounding <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/chiefs-kicker-slams-biden-and-dei-in-commencement-speech\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Butker\u2019s speech<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  to the graduates at Benedictine College \u2014 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">when he praised his wife for being a \u201chomemaker,\u201d called out President Joe Biden\u2019s support for abortion, and criticized LGBT \u201cPride month.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe\u2019re a microcosm of life here,\u201d Reid said. \u201cEverybody is from different areas, different religions, different races. And so we all get along, we all respect each other\u2019s opinions. And not necessarily do we go by those, but we respect everybody to have a voice. It\u2019s the great thing about America, man. And we\u2019re just \u2026 a microcosm of that. My wish is that everybody could follow that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe guys are good with that,\u201d he added. \u201cThey understand. They understand how things work. Everybody\u2019s got their own opinion; that\u2019s what\u2019s so great about this country. You can share those things, and you work through it. And that\u2019s what guys do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When pressed further by one reporter claiming Butker was speaking \u201cill\u201d of women, Reid shut him down and hit back.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cHe has his opinions and we all respect that,\u201d Chief\u2019s coach said. \u201cI let you guys [the media] in this room and you have a lot of opinions that I don\u2019t like.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When Mahomes took the mic he echoed a similar sentiment and said he\u2019s known Butker for seven years and he chooses to judge the placekicker by the character that he \u201cshows every single day, and that\u2019s a good person.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThat\u2019s someone who cares about the people around him, cares about his family, and wants to make a good impact in society,\u201d Mahomes said. \u201cWhen you\u2019re in the locker room, there\u2019s a lot of people from a lot of different areas of life, and they have a lot of different views on everything, and we\u2019re not always gonna agree.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThere are certain things that he said that I don\u2019t necessarily agree with, but I understand the person that he is, and he\u2019s trying to do whatever he can to lead people in the right direction,\u201d he added. \u201cIt might not be the same values as I have, but at the same time, I\u2019m gonna judge him by the character that he shows every single day, and that\u2019s a great person.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Butker\u2019s speech at the Catholic college drew a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/women-slam-biden-for-alleged-sexist-comment-made-toward-registered-nurse\/\" title=\"Women Slam Biden For Alleged \u2018Sexist\u2019 Comment Made Toward Registered Nurse\">backlash online<\/a>, with critics branding him as misogynistic and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A Change.org <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/demand-the-kansas-city-chiefs-to-dismiss-harrison-butker-for-discriminatory-remarks\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">petition<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  calling for the three-time Super Bowl champion to be kicked off the Chiefs team for his \u201cdiscriminatory\u201d remarks has amassed more than 220,000 signatures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/chiefs-star-chris-jones-defends-harrison-butker-amid-backlash-and-hes-not-alone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chiefs Star Chris Jones Defends Harrison Butker Amid Backlash, And He\u2019s Not\u00a0Alone<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kansas City Chiefs&#8217; coach Andy Reid and QB Patrick Mahomes spoke out in support of teammate Harrison Butker amidst criticism regarding his commencement speech.
