Emmanuel<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 22, 2024 at 1:01pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>In some states across the nation, the urban-rural split manifests in a dramatic political divide: A couple of large cities overwhelmingly dominate statewide elections and policies, often overshadowing the preferences of the rest of the state.<\/p>\n<p>In Oregon, the state\u2019s two largest cities, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/liberal-hellhole-portland-battles-highly-contagious-bacteria-spread-via-feces-sexual-intercourse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Portland<\/a> and Eugene, along with their surrounding metro areas, are considered among the most liberal in the country. The policy preferences of these urban progressive voters essentially dictate Oregon\u2019s statewide positions.<\/p>\n<p>However, travel outside\u00a0of\u00a0those population centers into rural eastern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/decriminalizing-hard-drugs-oregon-complete-u-turn-learning-hard-way\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oregon<\/a>, and you\u2019ll find communities with far more conservative values, leaning\u00a0largely\u00a0Republican.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">This is the 2016 Oregon Election results by county. But the Oregon\/Idaho border has shifted before, with the last adjustment happening in 1958.<\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0is not the only instance where rural counties, tired of being controlled by\u00a0big\u00a0city policies, have opened conversations about secession.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-boasted-unite-country-americans-now-openly-supporting-secession\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Similar secession efforts<\/a> have emerged in other parts of the country, including in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/local\/residents-downstate-illinois-county-vote-non-binding-referendum-separate-state-from-cook-county\/3415469\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Illinois<\/a> counties and a proposal last year for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/texas-farm-worker-infected-bird-flu-none-typical-influenza-signs-instead-showed-one-disturbing-symptom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Texas<\/a> to vote on \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-boasted-unite-country-americans-now-openly-supporting-secession\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Texit<\/a>\u201d \u2014 a measure designed to leave the United States entirely.<\/p>\n<p> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The movement to shrink Oregon and expand Idaho\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wS0hc9mos8c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Founders believed that there should be \u201cno taxation without representation,\u201d protesting policies made by a government that did not represent their values or give them a voice in shaping their\u00a0own\u00a0destiny.<\/p>\n<p>On a smaller scale, pockets of such unrest are rising up within the country as the rural-urban divide intensifies.<\/p>\n<p>Whether or not this particular secession comes to fruition, the seeds have been sown and are beginning to slowly take root.<\/p>\n<p>Barring a revival or some unforeseen drastic change, these rifts will continue to grow.
