Hunter Biden\u2019s lawyer has dismissed the lying accusation.<\/p>\n<p>Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY), the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/staff-looking-at-whether-james-biden-told-the-truth-in-deposition-house-gop-investigators-say\/\" title=\"House GOP investigators are examining if James Biden was truthful in his deposition, according to staff\">lead impeachment investigator<\/a>, has previously said the inquiry could lead to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/comer-says-biden-impeachment-inquiry-will-lead-to-multiple-criminal-referrals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cmultiple\u201d criminal referrals<\/a>. While it remains to be seen whether Hunter Biden would be the subject of any citation, Smith said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/waysandmeans.house.gov\/ways-and-means-committee-releases-evidence-showing-hunter-biden-lied-under-oath-during-recent-congressional-testimony\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> that lying during sworn testimony \u201cis a felony offense that the Department of Justice has prosecuted numerous individuals for in recent years, and the American people expect the same accountability for the son of the President of the United States.\u201d He also posted to X a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepJasonSmith\/status\/1793376625096372243\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thread<\/a> summarizing three alleged lies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLie #1: Hunter Biden lied about the recipient of his threatening WhatsApp messages. In the messages, Hunter Biden TWICE mentioned he was with his father \u2013 Joe Biden. During the deposition, he claimed that he was probably \u2018high or drunk\u2019 and messaged the wrong Chinese businessman with the last name Zhao,\u201d Smith began.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPhone records provided by the whistleblowers tell a different story. Hunter Biden messaged exactly who he meant to \u2014 Raymond Zhao, the individual associated with CEFC China Energy. He knew exactly what Hunter was talking about \u2014 and promised to \u2018cooperate with the family.\u2019 Raymond Zhao made good on his promise. No one is above the law, including the President\u2019s son.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The documents were provided by Internal Revenue Service (IRS) whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, who previously came forward with concerns about the conduct of the federal government\u2019s criminal inquiry into Hunter Biden. The first son has since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/matt-gaetz-seeks-house-intervention-to-protect-whistleblowers-in-hunter-bidens-irs-lawsuit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sued<\/a> the IRS, accusing Shapley and Ziegler of working to \u201cembarrass and inflict harm\u201d on him with the disclosure of confidential taxpayer information and violating the law. The whistleblowers have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/irs-whistleblowers-hunter-biden-lawsuit-against-irs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asked<\/a> a federal judge to dismiss the civil lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>Led by special counsel David Weiss, the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden eventually resulted in a pair of federal indictments on gun and tax charges after a plea deal collapsed last year. Hunter Biden has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The trial on gun charges in Delaware is expected to begin on June 3 after a judge <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/hunter-biden-trial-firearms-charges-f7e30bff8d0e96e850fa17c67fc13eb6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rejected a bid<\/a> to delay the prosecution, but Hunter Biden scored a victory on Wednesday when a judge agreed to push back a trial in California for the tax charges from June 20 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/news\/top-news\/articles\/2024-05-22\/hunter-bidens-criminal-tax-trial-delayed-to-sept-5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">September 5<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Chad Pergram, who is a senior congressional correspondent for Fox News, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ChadPergram\/status\/1793376060329046140\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said in a post<\/a> to X on Wednesday that Hunter Biden\u2019s attorney Abbe Lowell responded to the claim about his client lying to Congress during his deposition in February: \u201cHere they go again, grasping at straws and twisting Hunter\u2019s testimony to try to revive an impeachment inquiry that was a complete and utter failure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Leading the Biden impeachment inquiry, House Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) alleges Hunter Biden lied under oath in February.
