The complaint alleges a\u2063 violation\u200b of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/march-for-our-lives-issue-biden-1-billion-list-of-gun-control-policy-demands\/\" title=\"March For Our Lives Issue Biden  Billion List Of Gun Control Policy Demands\">campaign finance laws<\/a> by \u2063pushing for contributions beyond legal limits.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The reelection campaign of Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/sherrod-brown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Sherrod Brown\">Sherrod Brown<\/a> (D-OH) and other Democratic-aligned groups are being accused of soliciting excessive campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/fundraising\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"contributions\">contributions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An <a href=\"https:\/\/65db7681-e755-4cff-abe7-1d9e373df4db.usrfiles.com\/ugd\/65db76_5fc714c50a014f1e9ab01f65a9e8ba6f.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"ethics complaint\">ethics complaint<\/a> filed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/fec\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"ethics complaint\">Federal Elections Commission<\/a> on Wednesday by the conservative watchdog group Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust seeks civil penalties against Brown\u2019s campaign, in addition to the Ohio Democratic Party and the Ohio Grassroots Victory Fund political action committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt may look as if Sen. Brown is using a complex fundraising scheme, but the reality is it appears he is simply seeking campaign contributions above the legal limit,\u201d FACT Executive Director Kendra Arnold said in a statement. \u201cThe law must be strictly enforced against all candidates, but it is especially egregious when a long-serving U.S. senator seems to be violating this law \u2014 and the trust the public has placed in him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brown, who chairs the Senate Banking Committee, is one of several Senate Democrats facing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pa-dem-collected-110000-through-defunct-corporation\/\" title=\"PA Dem Collected 0,000 Through Defunct Corporation\">competitive reelection battle<\/a> this year in a swing state that could determine control of the chamber.<\/p>\n<p>Neither Brown nor the state party responded to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Chairman Sherrod Brown of Ohio speaks during a Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee oversight hearing to examine Wall Street firms on Capitol Hill, Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2023, in Washington. The complaint accuses the groups of flouting federal fundraising limits by continuing to raise money designated for Brown\u2019s primary campaign after the March 19 election, which is only allowed if campaigns have outstanding debts.<\/p>\n<p>It also alleges that contributions to the Ohio Democratic Party should have been counted as contributions to Brown because they were \u201cearmarked\u201d for the campaign or otherwise knowingly designated for it in fine print on donation webpages to fund \u201cvoter turnout operation to get Sherrod across the finish line this November.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brown is facing off this November against Republican Bernie Moreno in what could be one of the country\u2019s most expensive Senate races.<\/p>\n<p>Brown has raised nearly $40 million this cycle, according to FEC records through March.
