(AP Photo\/Bebeto Matthews, File)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Bureau of Prisons declined to comment on Bankman-Fried\u2019s\u00a0transfer, but the 32-year-old told those close to him that he expected to be moved to a facility in Mendota, California. <\/p>\n<p>Mendota is home to both a medium-security prison and an adjacent minimum-security satellite camp. It\u2019s not clear which Bankman-Fried will go to. <\/p>\n<p>Bankman-Fried has been locked up in the New York facility since last summer. <\/p>\n<p>The 32-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2448083\/forbes-puts-former-30-under-30-stars-on-blast-moving-them-to-hall-of-shame-list\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">former mogul<\/a> was sentenced in March, four months after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/new-york\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York<\/a> jury found him <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2434067\/sam-bankman-fried-found-guilty-of-fraud-ftx-founder-facing-100-years-in-prison\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">guilty<\/a> of two counts of fraud and five counts of conspiracy\u00a0that led\u00a0to the seismic collapse of his cryptocurrency exchange and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/inside-the-collapse-of-crypto-exchange-ftx\/\" title=\"Inside the Collapse of Crypto Exchange FTX\">affiliated hedge fund<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bankman-Fried stole billions in customer funds to live an extravagant lifestyle that included a sprawling penthouse in the Bahamas, where he ran his business. He also used customer money to buy himself \u201cpower and influence\u201d on Capitol Hill and lied to cover his tracks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy useful life is probably over,\u201d Bankman-Fried told Judge Lewis Kaplan before his sentencing. \u201cIt\u2019s been over for a while now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kaplan\u00a0called his crimes \u201cvery serious\u201d and chastised him for \u201cevasive, hairsplitting\u201d testimony during the six-week trial in November.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNever seen a performance quite like that,\u201d the judge added. <\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"CLICK HERE FOR MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER \">CLICK HERE FOR MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER <\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In April, Bankman-Fried\u2019s attorneys asked that he be allowed to stay in Brooklyn while they worked on his appeal. <\/p>\n<p>In the long term, they had asked he be moved to California so he could be close to his parents, who have taught at Stanford Law School since the 1980s. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sam Bankman-Fried, FTX cryptocurrency exchange founder, sentenced to 25 years for fraud, moved from Brooklyn to a California federal correctional facility.
