Republicans criticized Biden for using \u2064the student loan issue for political advantage, but\u200b White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre supported the administration&#8217;s decisions.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>White House<\/a> faced heavy criticism on Wednesday after President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a> announced a new round of <a href=\"https:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/student-loans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"student loan\">student loan<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-push-for-student-debt-forgiveness-would-cost-taxpayers-millions\/\" title=\"Democrats push for student debt forgiveness, would cost taxpayers millions\">debt forgiveness<\/a> worth nearly $8 billion.<\/p>\n<p>This latest tranche of debt forgiveness, affecting more than 160,000 borrowers, brings the total number of borrowers who have seen their debt forgiven by the president to 4.75 million.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans were quick to claim that Biden\u2019s student loan efforts amount to an attempt to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-student-loan-bailout-temporarily-blocked-by-u-s-appeals-court\/\" title=\"Biden's Student Loan Bailout Temporarily Blocked by U.S. Appeals Court\">buy votes ahead<\/a> of the 2024 election, with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) calling the debt forgiveness \u201cshameful\u201d earlier on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>White House press secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/karine-jean-pierre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Karine Jean-Pierre<\/a> faced several questions on the topic during Wednesday\u2019s press briefing, in which she attempted to flip Johnson\u2019s critique on its head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is shameful is that Republicans continue to get in the way of helping us deliver a little bit of breathing room for Americans who deserve that opportunity,\u201d she told reporters. \u201cThis is a president who has been very clear about making sure that he\u2019s building an economy that leaves no one behind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Still, reporters continued to press Jean-Pierre on how people who did not go to college might feel about the initiative and its mounting cost to taxpayers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hear your question, but this is \u2014 if you look at what the president has done more holistically over the past 3 1\/2 years, he has tried to build an economy for everyone.
