They argue that legislation is necessary to protect the sanctity of the vote as the country faces unprecedented levels of illegal immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border,\u201d the AP\u2019s Ali Swenson <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/voting-immigrants-noncitizen-trump-republicans-2024-1c65429c152c2a10514b5156eacf9ca7?taid=6648a21dd6100c00010e5c7f&#038;utm_campaign=TrueAnthem&#038;utm_medium=AP&#038;utm_source=Twitter\">wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1050492211\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c22ab936377b6c10e8f59dbc1df75299 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c22ab936377b6c10e8f59dbc1df75299\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cVoting by people who are not U.S. citizens already is illegal in federal elections and there is no indication it\u2019s happening anywhere in significant numbers,\u201d Swenson insisted. But nine paragraphs later, she conceded that \u201cthere have been cases over the years of noncitizens illegally registering and even casting ballots.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Swenson suggested these instances aren\u2019t a big deal because \u201cstates have mechanisms to catch\u201d such illegal voting. But in fact, the federal government has prevented states from requiring documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections.<\/p>\n<p>Federal voter registration forms do not require documentary proof of <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/01\/court-affirms-arizonas-need-to-keep-noncitizens-off-voter-rolls-but-makes-it-harder-to-do-so\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">citizenship<\/a>. Instead, each individual who registers to vote must simply check a box affirming he is a U.S. citizen. But if these eligible voters already have documentary proof of their citizenship from when they obtained such IDs, how would requiring it to register to vote constitute \u201cdisenfranchisement\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>The real reason leftists oppose the SAVE Act \u2014 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/how-the-pope-yale-foundations-and-plutocrats-got-corporations-involved-in-politics\/\" title=\"How the Pope, Yale, Foundations, and \u2018Plutocrats\u2019 Got Corporations Involved In Politics\">election integrity reforms<\/a> like it \u2014 is that Democrats and their ballot-trafficking operations benefit from weak election security.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-60253604cef8b14fee4b94e0484c8946 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-60253604cef8b14fee4b94e0484c8946\"><\/div>\n<p>When Georgia Republicans enacted an election integrity measure in 2022, Democrats \u2014 including President Joe Biden \u2014 likened it to \u201cJim Crow 2.0.\u201d The left claimed the law requiring voter ID to vote absentee was racist, suggesting black voters would be disenfranchised because they wouldn\u2019t be able to obtain IDs.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the disenfranchisement never actually happened. The state saw record-breaking turnout in the 2022 primary, with approximately 800,000 Georgians <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/05\/21\/voting-is-surging-georgia-despite-controversial-new-election-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">casting<\/a> an early vote. That number was three times the amount of early votes cast in 2018 and higher than in 2020, The Washington Post reported. And in the general election that fall, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/poll-shows-0-black-voters-had-poor-voting-experience-november-despite-biden-claim-jim-crow-2-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">0 percent<\/a> of black voters told pollsters they had a \u201cpoor\u201d experience voting.<\/p>\n<p>But Democrats had to make a fuss about the legislation because strong election integrity laws make their ballot schemes more difficult.
