Part Three is on the first presidential election post <\/em>Roe v. Wade<em> reversal.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Less than six months until the November election, Democrats are counting on women, infuriated over the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/supreme-court\/\"> Supreme Court<\/a> striking down the landmark<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/roe-v-wade\/\"> <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/a>  case, to save them once again.<\/p>\n<p>Lingering anger over the loss of abortion rights two years ago has led to Democratic victories in multiple elections despite a host of issues threatening the party, including rising grocery and gas prices, protests against the Israel-Hamas war, and growing disapproval of President<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\"> Joe Biden<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PART ONE: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/2993736\/electoral-map-hampers-bidens-rematch-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u2018NO ROOM FOR ERROR\u2019 ELECTORAL MAP HAMPERS BIDEN\u2019S REMATCH WITH TRUMP<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>PART TWO<\/strong>:<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3005156\/israel-protests-plague-biden-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\" BIDEN ONCE BACKED PROTESTS ON WAY TO 2020 WIN. NOW, HE\u2019S THEIR TARGET<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After stinging defeats in the 2022 midterm elections and numerous state level ballot measures, Republicans, led by former President Donald Trump, have sought to find a middle ground on abortion by allowing states to decide restrictions without federal interference.<\/p>\n<p>But Biden\u2019s reelection campaign and the Democratic Party are banking that the first presidential election without <em>Roe<\/em> will motivate voters to turnout to retain the Senate and keep the White House. According to AdImpact, Democrats spent $75 million on abortion ads from January 2023 to January 2024. Republicans spent nearly $17 million on ads focusing on abortion during that same time period.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats are trying to test the potency of the issue in red states, such as Florida and Montana. Florida\u2019s Supreme Court approved an amendment enshrining abortion into the state constitution to appear on the ballot, a move Democrats argue could put the Sunshine State in play.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFloridians are very progressive in terms of policy. Not so much in terms of politics sometimes,\u201d Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cWe\u2019re gonna change that too. But we\u2019re gonna win this ballot initiative like we\u2019ve won the last four.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>GOP sticks with Trump as he evolves on abortion stance<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>When the Supreme Court overturned <em>Roe<\/em> in June 2022, it marked a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/republican\/\">GOP<\/a> victory decades in the making.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\">Trump<\/a> took credit for the \u201cbiggest win for life in a generation\u201d because of his nominations of the three Supreme Court justices that paved the way for <em>Roe<\/em> to get struck down. He would continue to brag about his actions for the next two years.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of women, many of whom are Democrats, took to the streets to protest the ruling. (AP Photo\/Jose Luis Magana)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Democrats staved off serious electoral losses during the 2022 midterms by running on abortion access and reproductive rights. They kept control of the Senate and faced tight margins in the GOP-controlled House. Ballot measures limiting abortion have been soundly rejected in multiple states, and Democrats performed well during the 2023 off-year elections by running on supporting abortion access.<\/p>\n<p>Faced with the continuous electoral losses, some GOP candidates have sought to moderate their stance not just on abortion but on other reproductive issues including IVF and contraceptives.<\/p>\n<p>But the issue hasn\u2019t proven easy to solve even as the GOP slams Democrats for being too extreme on abortion.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has struggled to stick to a consistent position. He faced blowback during the primary season when he called six<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/donald-trump-slams-sen-lindsey-graham-over-abortion-disagreement\/\" title=\"Donald Trump criticizes Sen. Lindsey Graham for differing views on abortion\">-week abortion bans \u201cterrible<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think what he did is a terrible thing and a terrible mistake,\u201d Trump said of Gov. Ron DeSantis signing a six-week abortion ban into law in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>Trump wavered on endorsing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/stacey-abrams-calls-proposed-15-week-abortion-ban-deeply-problematic\/\" title=\"Stacey Abrams Calls Proposed 15-Week Abortion Ban \u201cDeeply Problematic\u201d\">15-week federal abortion ban<\/a> going back-and-forth on his support or outright dodging the question. In January, he caused consternation when he advised the GOP to face the reality of the unpopularity of abortion bans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re living in a time when there has to be a little bit of a concession one way or the other,\u201d the former president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2791531\/trump-retaining-support-anti-abortion-groups-call-concessions\/\">said<\/a> during a Fox News town hall. \u201cI will say this: You have to win elections.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet Republicans remain dismissive that abortion will kneecap the party again.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump has long been consistent in supporting the rights of states to make decisions on abortion,\u201d said Karoline Leavitt, national press secretary for the Trump campaign in a statement to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cJoe Biden and the Democrats are radically out of touch with the majority of Americans in their support for abortion up until birth and even after birth, and forcing taxpayers to fund it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTry and lie as he might, Dishonest Joe is as extreme as they come on abortion. Voters deserve to know the truth,\u201d added Republican National Committee spokeswoman Rachel Lee.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s comments in April where he appeared to moderate his stance on abortion led to swift blowback from antiabortion leaders, including the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America group and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy view is now that we have abortion where everybody wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or legislation or perhaps both,\u201d Trump said in the video posted on <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/112235238031827342\">Truth Social <\/a>in early April. \u201cAnd whatever they decide must be the law of the land \u2014 in this case, the law of the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The former president notably did not embrace a federal abortion ban during the video.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans and antiabortion activists upset over Trump\u2019s comments remain by his side in opposition to Biden, whom they view as too extreme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe stakes in 2024 are higher than ever as the pro-abortion Left floods pro-life states with millions of dollars to rewrite their constitutions, and Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/sbaprolife.org\/newsroom\/press-releases\/pelosi-dems-will-nuke-filibuster-enshrine-abortion-on-demand-nationwide\">vow to scrap the rules of the Senate<\/a> to force unlimited second and third trimester abortions on every state,\u201d said Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, in a statement to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know what doesn\u2019t win elections: the \u2018ostrich strategy\u2019 of burying one\u2019s head in the sand and hoping this issue goes away,\u201d Dannenfelser continued. \u201cPro-life candidates must go on offense to expose their opponents\u2019 extremism and put money into their message.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Hogan and Brown model new counter to Democratic attacks<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Public support for abortion remains steady with 63% of participants in a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/religion\/fact-sheet\/public-opinion-on-abortion\/\">Pew Research Survey<\/a> saying abortion should be legal in all or most cases and 36% saying it should be illegal in all or most cases.<\/p>\n<p>In a sign of how potent the issue is Maryland\u2019s Republican Senate nominee, Larry Hogan said he would support codifying <em>Roe<\/em> into law and the state\u2019s constitution. Hogan is running against Prince George\u2019s County executive Angela Alsobrooks, who is backed by the pro-abortion group Emily\u2019s List, for the open Senate seat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI support restoring Roe as the law of the land,\u201d Hogan told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/05\/16\/us\/politics\/larry-hogan-abortion-roe-v-wade.html\"><em>New York Times<\/em><\/a>. \u201cI\u2019ll continue to protect the rights of women to make their own reproductive choices just like I did as governor for eight years.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Republican Larry Hogan speaks at a Back to Work BBQ campaign event on May 4, 2024 in Maryland. (Graeme Jennings\/Washington Examiner )<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Republican Sam Brown, who is running in the Nevada senatorial GOP primary, attempted to downplay his stance on abortion as he seeks to take on vulnerable Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) in November.<\/p>\n<p>Like Trump, Brown says the issue is best left to states and he doesn\u2019t support a federal abortion ban. Brown\u2019s work with a local antiabortion group has also been downplayed.<\/p>\n<p>His wife, Amy Brown, went public with her abortion earlier this year pressuring the GOP to speak about abortion in a compassionate manner.<\/p>\n<p>Ariel Hill-Davis, a Republican strategist and founder of Republican Women for Progress, said the GOP will need to figure out better ways to campaign on women\u2019s healthcare.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis isn\u2019t a winning issue for us politically. It just isn\u2019t,\u201d Hill-David said. \u201cAnd until we find ways to get behind policies or initiatives that aren\u2019t just about taking away access to something that people have become accustomed to having access to, it is going to continue being a very big political weak spot for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Democrats look to abortion ballot measures for boost<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Organizers in battleground states such as Arizona and Nevada along with Florida are working to gain ballot measures for the November election.<\/p>\n<p>Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom claims it has surpassed the 102,362 signature threshold to qualify for an abortion ballot measure. Arizona for Abortion Access also announced it has more than the 383,923 signatures needed for the ballot measure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we\u2019ve seen since 2022 is an unbroken string of victories with ballot initiatives,\u201d said Rachel O\u2019Leary Carmona, executive director of Women\u2019s March. \u201cAnd I think we\u2019re going to continue to see that type of turnout at the polls.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democrats are even working on an abortion ballot measure in Montana to boost vulnerable Sen. Jon Tester\u2019s (D) reelection bid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat people need to see from the Democrats is that Democrats will fight,\u201d O\u2019Leary Carmona cautioned. \u201cWe want to see you fight and be as ruthless in defense of our values as the opposition is in defense of theirs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Democratic super PAC American Bridge 21st Century is spending $25 million through early June in abortion-themed ads against Trump in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. The ads are the first wave of a $140 million ad campaign against the former president.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden campaign has released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/2957475\/biden-campaign-pounces-trump-abortion-stance-new-ad\/\">several ads<\/a> featuring testimonials of women who have suffered pregnancy complications and were unable to receive medical care due to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/amazon-to-reimburse-employees-up-to-4000-if-they-cross-state-lines-to-get-an-abortion\/\" title=\"Amazon to Reimburse Employees Up to ,000 If They Cross State Lines to Get an Abortion\">state laws limiting abortion access<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kamala Harris, as the nation\u2019s first woman vice president, has emerged as the top abortion defender on the Biden campaign, traveling to Florida for a campaign rally on the same day a six-week abortion ban, signed into law by DeSantis (R-FL), went into effect.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<div>\n<p data-video_id=\"VeEYmhXDr-w\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"AB21 Ads Spring 2024: Anna\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VeEYmhXDr-w?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Other Democrats scoffed when the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> asked if voters would be convinced by Trump adopting a moderate abortion stance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s trying to talk out of both sides of his mouth, and hoping no one will notice,\u201d said Sen. Wade<\/em>,\u201d added Sen.
