The exchange\u200c highlighted contrasting views \u2062on social injustices \u2062and political ideologies.\u2064 Bill Maher, the HBO \u200bhost and comedian, sparked controversy on &#8220;The View&#8221;\u200b by engaging in a heated debate with co-host Sunny Hostin regarding the Left&#8217;s \u200dconnection to anti-Semitism. During his book promotion, Maher delved into sensitive topics such\u200b as the term &#8220;woke&#8221; and its \u2064changing connotations, shedding light on differing\u2063 perspectives on social injustices and \u200bpolitical beliefs.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Comedian and HBO host Bill Maher triggered \u201cThe View\u201d co-host Sunny Hostin during Tuesday\u2019s broadcast of the ABC midday talk show, sparring with her over his use of the term \u201cwoke\u201d and the Left\u2019s rapid descent into anti-Semitism.<\/p>\n<p>Maher appeared on the show in part to promote his new book \u2014 titled \u201cWhat This Comedian Said Will Shock You\u201d \u2014 and he also joined the co-hosts in their conversation about current events and politics.<\/p>\n<p>Maher mentioned issues like schools helping students with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/libby-emmons-floridas-anti-groomer-law-protects-kids-and-parents-from-activist-educators\/\" title=\"Libby Emmons: Florida\u2019s Anti-Groomer Law Protects Kids and Parents From Activist Educators\">social gender transitions<\/a> without the permission or knowledge of their parents and pointed out that in cases like that, the \u201cwoke\u201d far Left was doing the heavy lifting when it came to driving moderates toward voting for former President Donald Trump in November.<\/p>\n<p>Hostin pushed back then, not to refute his point but to complain that he had used the term \u201cwoke\u201d to mean something she didn\u2019t like.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just \u2014 the term \u2018woke\u2019 has been, in my view, co-opted by the Right and weaponized and bastardized,\u201d Hostin began. \u201cSo I was surprised to hear you use the term because historically as you know, because I think you\u2019re quite brilliant, that woke is a word used by the black community to note that we must be aware of social injustices \u2014 why is that a bad thing?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut words migrate,\u201d Maher pushed back, noting that the term has taken on a very different meaning over time, but added that it certainly was not a bad thing to be \u201calert to injustice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He went on to say that he would use a different word if that one was \u201ctriggering,\u201d but reinforced his point about words changing meaning over time: \u201cI think we agree about the danger of the super far Right, and I can\u2019t say it enough, I think they\u2019re the bigger threat, but don\u2019t tell me that the Left hasn\u2019t changed. I mean, I\u2019m old enough to remember when it was the conservatives who hated the Jews \u2026 that was a joke.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said then that if he\u2019d had any doubt that the Left had changed, seeing the recent campus protests would have been enough to convince him as students marched and chanted the slogans of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/president-trump-sends-message-to-democrats-and-rino-republicans-thousands-pouring-into-dc-wont-stand-for-stolen-election\/\" title=\"President Trump Sends Message to Democrats and RINO Republicans: \u2018Thousands Pouring Into DC Won\u2019t Stand for Stolen Election\u2019\">terrorist organization<\/a> Hamas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Maher calls out anti-Semitic liberals like Hostin who support Hamas\u2019s attacks on Jews. Trust me, you would go running and screaming and begging to live in Tel Aviv.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maher explained that under Hamas rule in Gaza, women had no rights, referring to the government as a \u201cgender apartheid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hostin objected then, asking, \u201cAre you at all concerned about the innocent civilians that have been collectively punished and murdered? Largely children and women? Aren\u2019t you at all concerned about the fact that the International Criminal Court just today issued a subpoena for Bibi Netanyahu?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, that\u2019s \u2014 that\u2019s ridiculous, but it\u2019s a war,\u201d Maher said. \u201cBecause it\u2019s a war. And they were attacked, and they\u2019re defending themselves. Now, this is a war. Do you think Hamas needs to be destroyed? That\u2019s what \u2018from the river to the sea\u2019 means. Okay? And they say it very openly. They said, \u2018We did this attack.\u2019 They\u2019ve attacked Israel five times. They\u2019ve started five wars since they were given that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/educators-students-take-day-off-to-protest-the-existence-of-college-police-departments\/\" title=\"Educators, Students Take Day Off To Protest The Existence Of College Police Departments\">land back<\/a>,\u201d Maher said. \u201cThey could have chosen to turn that place into any place they wanted to. And they took a lot of money that they took from the international community, and they spent it on bombs and guns and building tunnels. So, if they need to be destroyed, how do we do that? It\u2019s a war. I don\u2019t know how to do that, and you don\u2019t know how to do that. I assume the Israeli Defense \u2013\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut are you concerned about the innocent lives?\u201d Hostin asked again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, everybody is, but that\u2019s what happens in a war. Here\u2019s a way to stop that: stop attacking Israel,\u201d Maher shot back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd stop calling for the annihilation of Israel and all the Jews. They\u2019re calling for the annihilation of the Jews.
