In\u2063 2018, Pennsylvania&#8217;s State Department issued\u2062 a directive that potentially permits ineligible individuals to register\u2063 to vote, breaching the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) guidelines. America First Legal (AFL) argues that this\u2064 directive, which accepts applications with \u200bmismatched identifying \u2064numbers, may \u200cresult in ineligible voters, including noncitizens, being added to the state&#8217;s voter rolls.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<figure>                         <\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Pennsylvania\u2019s State Department issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/21\/judge-sees-nothing-wrong-with-leftist-voter-drives-on-wisconsin-college-campus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">directive<\/a> in 2018 that may allow noncitizens and other ineligible applicants to register to vote in violation of the 2002 Help America Vote Act (HAVA), according to a complaint brought by America First Legal (AFL) and obtained first by The Federalist.<\/p>\n<p>HAVA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/open\/havv\/#hava\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">requires<\/a> a voter to provide a valid driver\u2019s license number \u2014 or, if and only if he has no driver\u2019s license, the last four digits of his Social Security number \u2014 on his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/leading-candidate-for-new-york-city-mayor-may-not-live-in-city-report-suggests\/\" title=\"Leading Candidate For New York City Mayor May Not Live In City, Report Suggests\">voter registration form<\/a>. Election officials are then required to confirm whether the numbers provided are valid by checking them against state and federal databases. The system is meant to ensure that prospective voters are eligible.
