The legal team of Donald Trump discovered additional classified documents\u200d at Mar-a-Lago after the 2022 FBI raid, as disclosed in recently unsealed records. The revelations, outlined in Judge Beryl Howell&#8217;s opinion, highlight more records found by Trump&#8217;s attorneys and attempts to conceal them. Trump and associates are charged with tampering with evidence and hiding classified\u200c documents.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Lawyers for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> uncovered two more rounds of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago home following the controversial 2022 FBI raid at the former president\u2019s resort home in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/florida\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Florida<\/a>, according to newly unsealed records.<\/p>\n<p>The filings stem from a March 17, 2023 opinion by U.S. District Court Judge Beryl Howell pertaining to subpoenas issued between November 2022 and January 2023 by a grand jury sitting in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/washington-dc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Washington, D.C.\">Washington, D.C.<\/a>, according to the 87-page <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.flsd.648653\/gov.uscourts.flsd.648653.561.4.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"memorandum opinion\">memorandum opinion<\/a>. The unearthed filings shed light on additional records uncovered by Trump\u2019s attorneys in the months after FBI agents who executed a raid on the property retrieved troves of classified documents at the center of special counsel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/jack-smith\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jack Smith<\/a>\u2018s indictment.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>The entrance to former President Donald Trump\u2019s Mar-a-Lago estate is shown, Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, in Palm Beach, Florida. (AP Photo\/Terry Renna)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On or about Dec. 15, 2022, Trump\u2019s lawyers told the Justice Department that \u201ca box containing four documents or partial documents, totaling six pages, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/stopping-the-next-hunter-biden-laptop-coverup\/\" title=\"Stopping the Next Hunter Biden Laptop Coverup\">classified markings<\/a> were found in a closet,\u201d according to Howell\u2019s opinion, which noted the documents contained markings at the \u201cSecret level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was still not the end of the production of responsive records,\u201d Howell wrote, noting Trump\u2019s office provided an additional box with the four documents to the FBI on approximately Jan. 5, 2023.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>Trump\u2019s office also provided the FBI with \u201ctwo additional documents\u201d responsive to a May 2022 subpoena, which included \u201cone <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-government-seized-over-11000-non-classified-documents-from-trumps-home\/\" title=\"US Government Seized Over 11,000 Non-Classified Documents From Trump\u2019s Home\">empty folder<\/a> and another mostly empty folder marked \u2018Classified Evening Summary\u2019 that were found in the former president\u2019s bedroom at Mar-a-Lago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The newly public opinion by Howell also revealed fresh details about how Smith\u2019s team provided evidence that Trump made additional efforts to hide the classified documents from the government.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>Howell found that Smith had made a \u201clikely\u201d showing that Trump told his associates to \u201cavoid the surveillance cameras he then understood to have been deputized by the government.\u201d The judge\u2019s findings were also informed by the compelled testimony of former Trump lawyer Evan Corcoran as part of her ruling granting a crime-fraud exception to attorney-client privilege.<\/p>\n<p>Trump was charged in the summer of 2023 with a superseding indictment, along with aide Walt Nauta and Mar-a-Lago employee Carlos De Oliveira, over allegations of violating a section of U.S. law pertaining to tampering with evidence.<\/p>\n<p>The former president faces a total of 40 counts in the Florida federal indictment surrounding alleged retention of classified documents and conspiracy to hide them from the government and his own attorneys.<\/p>\n<p>The Washington judge also lambasted the post-raid discovery of new materials, saying \u201cno excuse\u201d was given as to how Trump \u201ccould miss the classified-marked documents found in his own bedroom at Mar-a-Lago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead, the government has provided evidence to demonstrate that the full arc of the criminal violation had already concluded more than six months before his search of Mar-a-Lago, when the evidence demonstrates the former president intentionally failed to provide all the classified documents in his possession to the government with the June 3, 2022 Certification,\u201d Howell wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The unsealed records from Howell come as Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Elise Stefanik (R-NY) are investigating the dismissal of Stefanik\u2019s misconduct complaint against Howell over possible prejudicial statements Howell made about Trump\u2019s separate four-count felony criminal case involving an alleged effort to subvert the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has pleaded not guilty to the charges in both federal indictments.
