The Minnesota GOP backed Royce White, an ex-NBA player\u200b associated with right-wing conspiracy theories. His potential win \u2064in \u200bthe primary could lead to a face-off against\u200d Sen. Amy Klobuchar. \u2063Issues regarding campaign finances and personal debt have been raised \u200ddespite\u2064 White&#8217;s past\u2063 activism. White also supported police reform during the\u2062 Black Lives Matter movement.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/minnesota\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Minnesota<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/republicans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Republican Party<\/a> gave an unexpected endorsement to Royce White, a former NBA player who has embraced several right-wing conspiracy theories. <\/p>\n<p>White, if successful in the state\u2019s Aug. 13 primary, will face <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/amy-Klobuchar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Sen. Amy Klobuchar<\/a> (D-MN) in the November general election. In 2021, White began embracing many right-wing conspiracy theories and was a frequent guest on conspiracy theorist Alex Jones\u2019s show, <em>Infowars<\/em>, after previously being an activist involved with the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reality is we need people now more than ever that can\u2019t be bought,\u201d White <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4675121-minnesota-gop-endorses-royce-white-senate-klobuchar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said<\/a> after he received the endorsement. \u201cThey don\u2019t have a price, and I can\u2019t stress that to you enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He garnered <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/05\/20\/us-news\/royce-white-wins-surprise-backing-of-minnesota-gop-in-race-against-amy-klobuchar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>67% of the state GOP\u2019s support<\/a> at their convention on Saturday. In 2022, he ran an unsuccessful primary bid to unseat Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), but he did not secure the party nomination.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3007712\/biden-taking-trump-head-fake-try-flip-deep-blue-state\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>The Minnesota GOP <\/a>granted White the endorsement with \u201creservations\u201d over concerns regarding his campaign funding and personal debt. According to the Federal Election Commission, White\u2019s campaign has about $10,000 on hand. White said the personal debt was because he could not reach an agreement with the NBA regarding mental health. <\/p>\n<p>White appeared in three NBA games after being drafted by the Houston Rockets in 2012. He said he could not reach an agreement with the organization on mental health grounds due to his fear of flying.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, he called for police reforms following the Black Lives Matter protests that originated in Minneapolis after police killed George Floyd. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re talking about pushing the police all the way outside of the circle of trust and having them reestablish their entry into the circle of trust through their actions and through proving that they can be trusted in that circle,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/msnbc\/watch\/minneapolis-activists-look-to-rein-in-police-power-84539461573\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>he said on MSNBC<\/a> in June 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Following other media outlets finding his past statements after receiving the party endorsement, White distanced himself from the movement and attacked the media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead of celebrating the Minnesota Republican Party for endorsing the first Black candidate for Senate in party history, who grew up in the Rondo St. Paul and is as deeply rooted in our Minnesota Black community as you can be, they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-are-finally-learning-not-to-obsess-over-the-corrupt-corporate-media-good\/\" title=\"Republicans Are Finally Learning Not To Obsess Over The Corrupt Corporate Media. In 2018, she received 60.3% of the vote.
