If \u200dsuccessful, the plan would \u2062shift Oregon&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democracy-in-peril-authoritarian-conquest-looms-over-much-of-the-world-as-2021-ends\/\" title=\"Democracy in Peril: Authoritarian Conquest Looms over Much of the World as 2021 Ends\">border west<\/a> by \u2063200 miles, merging rural areas with Idaho. The sentiment reflects \u2063discontent with liberal policies from \u200bOregon&#8217;s leadership,\u200b pushing some to consider joining the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/these-u-s-neighborhoods-declared-independence-from-towns-or-counties-that-ignored-them-breaking-off-into-new-cities-they-run-their-way\/\" title=\"These U.S. Neighborhoods Declared Independence From Towns Or Counties That Ignored Them, Breaking Off Into New Cities They Run Their Way\">secession movement<\/a>. The &#8220;Greater Idaho\u200d Movement&#8221; is picking\u2063 up momentum in Oregon, with residents aiming to break away and unite \u2062with conservative\u2064 Idaho.\u2062 Success would relocate\u2064 Oregon&#8217;s border westward by 200 miles, integrating rural regions with Idaho.\u2063 Dissatisfaction with liberal governance in Oregon is prompting residents to contemplate participating in \u2064the secession endeavor.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A secession plan known as the \u201cGreater Idaho Movement\u201d is gaining momentum in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/oregon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Oregon<\/a> as some residents feel they no longer belong in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sharon-and-ozzy-osbourne-moving-to-uk-due-to-high-california-taxes\/\" title=\"Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne Moving to UK Due to High California Taxes\">liberal-run state<\/a> and would be better served by their neighbor to the east. <\/p>\n<p>If successful, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greateridaho.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>the Greater Idaho Movement<\/a> would move Oregon\u2019s eastern border west by 200 miles, allowing some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/interview-how-health-care-price-transparency-can-save-americans-money-and-put-consumers-in-charge\/\" title=\"INTERVIEW: How Health Care Price Transparency Can Save Americans Money And Put Consumers In Charge\">rural parts<\/a> of the state to combine with neighboring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/idaho\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Idaho<\/a>. In Crook County, Oregon, home to about 26,000 people, residents are set to vote on joining dozens of other counties in the Eastern portion of the state to join a secession measure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love Oregon but I just don\u2019t love the people running it right now,\u201d Eric Smith, a Crook County, Oregon, resident, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2024\/05\/19\/oregon-idaho-state-secession-national-divorce\/73677225007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>told<\/a> <em>USA Today<\/em>. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t feel like they want to keep us anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Oregon and Idaho legislatures, as well as Congress, would need to approve the secession plan, but the sentiment remains among many people living in eastern Oregon. Still, many residents, even some who said they would not vote in favor of a secession measure, said they were unhappy with some liberal policies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/2925989\/republicans-call-oregon-democratic-senator-step-down-over-wifes-large-stock-holdings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>coming out of<\/a> the state\u2019s capital, Salem, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/healthcare\/2948968\/oregon-recriminalizes-drugs-states-mistake\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>such as marijuana legislation<\/a>, reducing fossil fuel usage, and how Oregon handled the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQuit treating us like Portland,\u201d Smith, who did not tell the outlet how he would vote, demanded.<\/p>\n<p>Some supporters of the movement view the secession as a peaceful way to part ways with the state. They say instead of fighting with Democrats, who have a Democratic trifecta in the government, or moving to another state that shares their views more, secession gives them an avenue to be surrounded by more like-minded people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople have already sorted themselves into like-minded communities,\u201d Matt McCaw, a Greater Idaho Movement spokesman, said. \u201cPeople like to live around people who share the same values they do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While he did not disagree that people can live side by side and have political disagreements, McCaw said Oregon\u2019s liberal policies being placed on rural regions creates an unsustainable environment. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think we can sustain the path we are on,\u201d he said. \u201cWe need to be OK saying your values are yours, mine are mine, and you have to respect our ability to have different views.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The counter \u201cIdaNo!\u201d movement has called upon voters to reject the plan. Ryan Griffiths, a political science professor at Syracuse University, said the secession movement lacks significant public support and is \u201cperformative,\u201d one of many in a long history of other state secession movements. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a pipe dream in a way.
