Speaker Mike Johnson \u200ddenounced the ICC&#8217;s actions as baseless and illegitimate. He criticized the comparison between Israeli actions and Hamas attacks, calling \u2063for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/australian-women-to-sue-qatar-over-invasive-airport-gynaecological-searches\/\" title=\"Australian Women to Sue Qatar over Invasive Airport Gynaecological Searches\">global condemnation<\/a>. Congress is exploring punitive measures against the\u2062 ICC\u2064 in light \u2064of the Biden \u2063administration&#8217;s\u2064 approach towards\u200c Israel.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/republican-party\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>House GOP<\/a> leaders are weighing \u201call options\u201d in response to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/international-criminal-court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">International Criminal Court<\/a> seeking to file arrest warrant applications for senior <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Israeli<\/a> officials such as Prime Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/benjamin-netanyahu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a> \u2014 a move that many lawmakers and even President <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a> have called \u201coutrageous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Early Monday, the ICC announced it was pursuing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/3009632\/icc-seeks-arrest-warrants-israeli-hamas-leaders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">warrants<\/a> for the arrests of Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, as well as the following senior Hamas leaders: Yahya Sinwar, the head of Hamas in Gaza, Mohammed Deif, the head of the military, and Ismail Haniyeh, the head of its political bureau.<\/p>\n<p>Speaker <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mike-johnson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Mike Johnson<\/a> (R-LA) called the ICC\u2019s actions \u201cbaseless and illegitimate,\u201d echoing many fellow Republicans and Democrats who condemned the ICC for comparing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-hampshire-rep-targets-critical-race-theory-proposes-divisive-trainings-ban\/\" title=\"New Hampshire Rep. Targets Critical Race Theory, Proposes \u2018Divisive\u2019 Trainings Ban\">actions committed<\/a> by Hamas to those taken by Israel in the wake of the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks on the Jewish state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ICC has no authority over Israel or the United States, and today\u2019s baseless and illegitimate decision should face global condemnation,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cInternational bureaucrats cannot be allowed to use lawfare to usurp the authority of democratic nations that maintain the rule of law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIsrael is fighting a just war for survival, and the ICC is attempting to equate Israeli officials to the evil terrorists who perpetrated the October 7th massacre,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-u-k-commons-speaker-john-bercow-banned-from-parliament-for-life\/\" title=\"Former U.K. Commons Speaker John Bercow Banned From Parliament for Life\">speaker continued<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Johnson said the ICC\u2019s decision to seek arrest warrants can be blamed on the Biden administration\u2019s \u201cpressure campaign\u201d against Israel and its \u201coutlandish State Department investigations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the absence of leadership from the White House, Congress is reviewing all options, including sanctions, to punish the ICC and ensure its leadership faces consequences if they proceed,\u201d the speaker said. \u201cIf the ICC is allowed to threaten Israeli leaders, ours could be next.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Johnson is the latest lawmaker to criticize the move by the ICC. Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/lindsey-graham\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lindsey Graham<\/a> (R-SC) said shortly after the ICC\u2019s announcement that he would work with colleagues on both sides of the aisle \u201cin both chambers to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/3009782\/lawmakers-outraged-icc-pursuit-arrest-warrants-israeli-leaders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>levy damning sanctions<\/a> against the ICC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some House Republicans, such as Rep. Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY), one of the most vocal supporters of Israel in Congress, described the ICC\u2019s decision as \u201cretribution against Israel for the original sin of existing as a Jewish State and the subsequent sin of defending itself amid the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust,\u201d while Rep.
