Kamala Harris agreed,\u201d Rubio said. \u201cBy the way, there are Democrats serving in Congress today who, in 2004, voted not to certify the Ohio electors because they said those machines had been tampered with. And you have Democrats now saying they won\u2019t certify 2024 because Trump is an insurrectionist and ineligible to hold office. So you need to ask them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rubio then pointed out that having \u201cover 500 illegal dropbox locations\u201d in Wisconsin, for example, is something that legitimately undermines confidence in elections.<\/p>\n<p>Rubio\u2019s answer was excellent because he understands the insidiousness of such a question: Republicans are being goaded to relinquish their right to question problematic election administration. It\u2019s a cheap trick designed to silence legitimate concerns about election administration by painting them as threats to \u201cdemocracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c75239a8890e2ee2ebece95111bac2e9 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c75239a8890e2ee2ebece95111bac2e9\"><\/div>\n<p>When Republicans treat the question as anything but a cheap trick, they put themselves immediately on the defensive by assuming the question\u2019s dishonest premises. That\u2019s exactly what South Carolina senator and potential vice presidential pick Tim Scott did during a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/4644594-tim-scott-2024-election-results-donald-trump-president\/#:~:text=Welker%20then%20asked%20Scott%20whether,replied%20before%20Welker%20cut%20in.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interview<\/a> of his own with Welker. When goaded as to whether he would accept the results of the 2020 election, Scott chose to side-step the question.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the end of the day, the 47th president of the United States will be President Donald Trump,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>When asked again, Scott responded \u201cThat is my statement\u201d and \u201cI look forward to President Trump being the 47th president \u2014 the American people will make the decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scott\u2019s answer was abysmal because he was obviously afraid of the question. But no Republican should be afraid to refuse to play along with corporate media partisans\u2019 bad-faith \u201cgotcha\u201d questions. What\u2019s more, there\u2019s nothing wrong with refusing to resoundingly affirm the results of an election that has not yet taken place, especially at a time when Democrats are deploying everything from weaponized lawfare to unconstitutional attempts to federalize elections via \u201cBidenbucks\u201d to rig elections in their favor.<\/p>\n<p>Besides, as Rubio pointed out, the 2020 election was far from the first to face scrutiny. Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/13\/second-j6-hearing-criminalizes-republicans-for-election-objections-after-democrats-made-them-for-decades\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">called<\/a> Republican George Bush\u2019s election in 2000 \u201cfraudulent,\u201d said his 2004 victory was \u201cstolen,\u201d and objected to the certification of Trump\u2019s 2016 election while claiming he had colluded with Russia to steal the presidency. <\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-trump-teams-peter-navarro-drops-third-report-providing-proof-trump-won\/\" title=\"BREAKING: Trump Team\u2019s Peter Navarro Drops Third Report Providing \u201cProof Trump Won\u201d\">1960 presidential election<\/a>, some electors <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/05\/15\/the-lefts-2020-fake-electors-narrative-is-fake-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">declared<\/a> Richard Nixon the winner of Hawaii\u2019s electoral votes before a recount eventually led to John F. Kennedy\u2019s electors\u2019 votes being certified. Should Kennedy have resigned his right to question the incorrect initial results prior to the election?<\/p>\n<p>Of course not \u2014 yet that\u2019s what Republicans are being asked to do now.
