Joey Logano dominated in his Team Penske Ford, winning the million-dollar prize after leading for 199 of the 200 laps.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re the kind who watches stock car racing for the crashes, however, you got your money\u2019s worth: After Kyle Busch and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. were involved in an incident on the second lap, the two got into a viral fight after the race.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/joey-logano-holds-off-brad-keselowski-for-vegas-nascar-win\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Logano<\/a>, a two<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nascar-driver-kyle-busch-to-attend-sensitivity-training-after-using-r-word-in-interview\/\" title=\"NASCAR Driver Kyle Busch To Attend Sensitivity Training After Using R-Word In Interview\">-time series champion<\/a>, sat on the pole at North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, and cemented the win <a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/\/motorsports\/races\/nascar-all-star-race-2024-2097\/?fr=sycsrp_catchall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in the 20-car field<\/a> by staying out during a planned caution with 50 laps left for lack of another set of soft-compound tires.<\/p>\n<p>He ended up winning by just over half a second in the non-points-paying race, open to winners in the 2023 and 2024 season as well as fan favorites and several drivers who qualified during the 100-lap All-Star Open earlier in the day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe came here and tested and ran over 800 laps at the tire test,\u201d Logano said after the race, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nascar\/2024\/05\/19\/joey-logano-wins-nascar-all-star-race-north-wilkesboro\/73765473007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USA Today<\/a>. \u201cI wish this one counted for points, but a million bucks will work as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Busch and Stenhouse Jr. might end up <em>losing<\/em> money after it\u2019s all over, however, thanks to potential fines due to what happened behind the wall after the race was finished.<\/p>\n<p>The inciting incident took place just after the start as Busch\u2019s No. 8 Lenovo ran wide into turn one. Stenhouse Jr. in the No. 47 Kroger\u2019s Chevrolet ended up going three-wide, splitting Busch\u2019s car and the No. 34 of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-god-good-big-daytona-500-crash-leads-stunning-upset-win-devout-christian-driver\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael McDowell<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While Busch\u2019s car hit the wall, closer examination of the clip shows that Stenhouse Jr. didn\u2019t actually <em>touch<\/em> Busch\u2019s car.<\/p>\n<p>Whether or not he forced Busch, himself a two-time Cup Series champion, into the wall by taking an ill-advised racing line is another question entirely, although Busch was extremely wide by the standards of North Wilkesboro and the whole thing could be chalked up to a racing incident. In fact, the race that arguably brought the sport from being a regional Southern spectacle to a national audience \u2014 the 1979 Daytona 500, the first 500-miler to be aired in its entirety live \u2014 ended in a legendary fight after Cale Yarborough and Donnie Allison wrecked on the last lap while fighting for the lead.<\/p>\n<p> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"1979 Daytona 500 ''The Famous Finish'' NASCAR\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/h1b2OYvja_Q?start=30&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>However, here\u2019s the thing: People also remember that one of the all-time greats, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-fbi-reveals-harmless-truth-noose-bubba-wallaces-garage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Richard Petty<\/a>, won that race. On social media after Sunday\u2019s race, I didn\u2019t really seem to find anyone talking about Logano\u2019s dominating performance. Rather, the attention seemed to be much in the vein of radio host and pundit Clay Travis\u2019 two-word reaction: \u201cNASCAR FIGHT!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NASCAR is currently in the process of building back the kind of audience it enjoyed in the \u201990s and \u201900s, something it\u2019s lost due to talent aging out of the sport, newer drivers who seem more corporate and less personable than the Darrell Waltrips and Dale Earnhardts they replaced, confusing and gimmicky rule changes, and the emergence of other summer sports \u2014 including another popular motor-racing series, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-seven-time-formula-one-champion-hit-penalty-crash-track\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Formula One<\/a> \u2014 in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, extracurricular activities like this, particularly given our greater awareness of the damage wrought by head trauma, isn\u2019t exactly viewed in the same light by sports fans in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>What used to be charming, in other words, is now a bit embarrassing. If you missed the All-Star Race, tune into the social media viral-clip madness and you\u2019d get the impression people tuned in for a fight and a stock car event broke out. That\u2019s something <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/nascar-star-apologizes-nasty-war-words-owner-10-cup-series-tracks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASCAR<\/a> can ill afford on one of the biggest dates on the 2024 calendar.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>I heard a chilling comment the other day: \u201cWe don\u2019t even know if an election will be held in 2024.\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>That wasn\u2019t said by a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday prophet.
