Despite Senate Democrats&#8217; opposition, this legislation aimed\u200d to enhance border security significantly, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/illegal-immigrant-crossings-are-spiking-at-the-northern-border\/\" title=\"Illegal Immigrant Crossings Are Spiking \u2026 At The Northern Border\">reduce illegal crossings<\/a>, and prevent the release \u200dof\u2063 illegal aliens \u200binto the \u2064interior, offering \u200dsolutions to the\u2063 escalating challenges at the \u2064southern\u2064 border. The Secure the Border Act, passed by House Republicans, aimed to combat the border crisis caused by the Biden administration. It focused\u200c on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-border-patrol-chief-reveals-top-threat-facing-u-s-right-now-its-going-to-get-so-much-worse\/\" title=\"Former Border Patrol Chief Reveals Top Threat Facing U.S. Right Now: \u2018It\u2019s Going To Get So Much Worse\u2019\">improving border security<\/a>, decreasing illegal crossings, and halting the release of illegal immigrants within the country, presenting solutions to the mounting issues at the southern border amidst Senate Democrats&#8217; \u200cresistance.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>One year ago, in response to an unprecedented border crisis unleashed by the Biden administration\u2019s destructive policies, House Republicans united to pass landmark border security legislation. H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, is the strongest border security legislation to pass a body of Congress and undoubtedly would have drastically reduced illegal crossings and the resulting chaos over the last 365 days.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, open-borders Democrats in the Senate have refused to bring this bill up for a vote \u2014 or even hold a single hearing on it \u2014 while the border continues to spiral out of control. Instead, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/05\/19\/schumer-senate-standalone-border-bill-this-week-00158820\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">again<\/a> trying to pass a Senate border bill that will only exacerbate the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-accuse-biden-of-playing-political-game-over-border-crisis\/\" title=\"House Republicans Accuse Biden of Playing \u2018Political Game\u2019 Over Border Crisis\">illegal immigration crisis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1033662802\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-221a63f6de0691f1eac9fec665c3c657 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-221a63f6de0691f1eac9fec665c3c657\"><\/div>\n<p>Since Biden took office in January 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gop.gov\/news\/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=797\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">7.8 million illegal aliens<\/a> have been encountered at the southern border \u2014 more than the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/illegal-immigrants-biden-admin-amount-greater-population-36-states\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">populations of 36 states<\/a>. Alarmingly, more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.govinfo.gov\/content\/pkg\/CREC-2024-05-01\/html\/CREC-2024-05-01-pt1-PgH2784-5.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">4.6 million<\/a> of these illegal aliens have been released into the interior, largely through the purposeful abuse of legally narrow humanitarian asylum and parole provisions in our law designed to be \u201ccase-by-case\u201d and limited.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, Americans such as Laken Riley would almost certainly still be alive today if their assailants (in Riley\u2019s case, the accused is an illegal alien from Venezuela who crossed the border without authorization) had not been paroled and released into the interior, something H.R. 2 would have prevented.<\/p>\n<p>The magnitude of the damage cannot be overstated. In May 2023, when the House passed H.R. 2, Border Patrol was encountering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.migrationpolicy.org\/article\/border-after-title-42\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">10,000 illegal aliens a day<\/a>; by December, daily totals were <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/12\/06\/news\/12000-migrants-cross-southern-border-in-a-single-day-tuesday-highest-total-ever-sources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more than 12,000<\/a>. Jeh Johnson, secretary of Homeland Security under President Obama, once said that 1,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-crush-of-child-migrants-leads-record-breaking-illegal-immigration-in-july\/\" title=\"Report: Crush Of Child Migrants Leads Record-Breaking Illegal Immigration In July\">000 illegal alien encounters<\/a> at the border constituted a crisis. During a surge in 2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DavidAsmanfox\/status\/1732776095865335990\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Johnson added<\/a>, \u201cI cannot begin to imagine what 4,000 [encounters] a day looks like.\u201d Shamefully, that is now the new normal under the open-borders Biden administration.<\/p>\n<p>During this time, the southern border has grown as a hotspot for infiltration by criminals and terrorists. In the nearly four years Biden has been in office, Border Patrol has arrested <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/newsroom\/stats\/cbp-enforcement-statistics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">48,395 individuals with criminal convictions<\/a> \u2014 a 120 percent surge compared to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/newsroom\/stats\/cbp-enforcement-statistics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">21,936 criminals<\/a> arrested under the Trump administration. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-f2b85eae138fd8a6511a5332d8fc9aed fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-f2b85eae138fd8a6511a5332d8fc9aed\"><\/div>\n<p>In fiscal year 2023 alone, Border Patrol encountered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/newsroom\/stats\/cbp-enforcement-statistics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">169 known or suspected terrorists<\/a> attempting to cross the southern border, an all-time record that should alarm every American. What\u2019s more, these numbers only represent those who were caught \u2014 while an estimated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gop.gov\/news\/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=797\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1.8 million illegal alien \u201cgotaways\u201d<\/a> have successfully evaded border officials under Biden.<\/p>\n<p>This mayhem would be halted by the enactment of H.R. 2. The legislation is designed to support a willing president and also to force a lawless administration to detain, turn away, or remove illegal aliens \u2014 rather than the Biden policy of encouraging them to come and then releasing them into the interior en masse. <\/p>\n<p>Additionally, H.R. 2 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/house-bill\/2\/text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bars<\/a> the \u201cCBP One\u201d application from being used by illegal aliens to schedule unlawful entry into the country. Under the Biden administration, CBP One has served as a pull factor for unchecked migration at the border. H.R. 2 also closes multiple loopholes and addresses the countless incentives created by irrational policies, outdated laws, and flawed judicial decisions.<\/p>\n<p>These reforms have the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/polling-institute\/reports\/monmouthpoll_us_022624\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">support of the vast majority of the American people<\/a>, who now rank border-related issues as their top concern.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ef325193ec41fc57f1d3fab3afd76649 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ef325193ec41fc57f1d3fab3afd76649\"><\/div>\n<p>Of course, while blocking H.R. 2, Senate Democrats, with limited \u201cbipartisan\u201d support purposefully offered alternative border legislation as cover. In reality, their bill <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/homeland-security\/report\/the-senate-border-bill-disaster-border-security\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">accepts<\/a> the flawed premise of open borders while offering token \u201creforms\u201d and keeping existing laws and loopholes in place. <\/p>\n<p>It does nothing to stop the president\u2019s parole abuse, creates a whole new \u201cclaim-and-release\u201d process for dubious asylum claims, exempts huge swaths of illegal aliens from being expelled, and writes checks worth billions of dollars to help NGOs and Biden\u2019s DHS to perpetuate all of it. It was so bad that it died before it got out of the gate in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>Still, one year after the House passage of H.R. 2, the dangers stemming from our open border have increased exponentially. In the weeks after Hamas\u2019 attack on Israel, U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dhs-braces-for-terror-threat-on-southern-border\/\" title=\"DHS Braces for Terror Threat on Southern Border\">national security officials warned<\/a> of elevated threats of terror attacks against the United States. Last fall, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/news\/speeches\/director-wrays-opening-statement-to-the-senate-committee-on-homeland-security-and-governmental-affairs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FBI Director Christopher Wray testified<\/a> that \u201cthe threat of an attack against Americans in the United States [had reached] a whole other level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Drug cartels smuggle substances like fentanyl that have claimed countless American lives. Often originating in China, fentanyl enters our country in large amounts across our southern border and is now responsible for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndtv.com\/world-news\/fentanyl-us-china-talks-biden-xi-jinping-ndtv-explains-what-is-fentanyl-synthetic-opioid-discussed-by-biden-xi-4578606\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deaths of about 70,000 Americans a year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s not just the American people who are suffering. The human beings making the trip to America \u2014 some for good reason, some for bad \u2014 are suffering. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/immigration\/commentary\/fighting-human-trafficking-and-battling-bidens-open-border\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Thousands<\/a> of little girls and some boys get sold into the sex trafficking trade, <a href=\"https:\/\/homeland.house.gov\/2023\/07\/19\/chairman-green-every-dollar-the-cartels-rake-in-comes-at-the-cost-of-an-american-life-or-livelihood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">billions<\/a> of dollars are extorted by the cartels, and many die on the journey \u2014 indeed, in fiscal year 2022, a record-breaking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/migrant-deaths-crossing-us-mexico-border-2022-record-high\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">853<\/a> people died along the southern frontier.<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/press\/rep\/releases\/dhs-confirms-to-graham-laken-riley-murder-suspect-illegally-paroled-into-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">needless crimes<\/a> committed against Americans by criminals who are taking advantage of these policies to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/content\/getstuffdone\/pages\/asylum-seeker-update\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">staggering fiscal and social burdens<\/a> being imposed on cities and states, Americans are suffering the consequences. American state and local governments are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fairus.org\/issue\/publications-resources\/fiscal-burden-illegal-immigration-united-states-taxpayers-2023#:~:text=Illegal%20aliens%20only%20contribute%20roughly,immigration%20at%20approximately%20%24116%20billion.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">seeing their resources stretched thin to deal with the influx<\/a>. Texas alone has spent over <a href=\"https:\/\/budget.house.gov\/press-release\/chairman-arrington-delivers-opening-remarks-at-hearing-onthe-cost-of-the-border-crisis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$13 billion<\/a> under Biden to manage the crisis, in addition to untold burdens on local communities.<\/p>\n<p>This must end.<\/p>\n<p>One year ago, at the urging of House conservatives, Republicans united in passing H.R. 2 to take the first step in decades toward an actual national border security policy for a sovereign nation. Radical open-borders Democrats in the Senate \u2014 led by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer \u2014 blocked it, and House Republicans have been unwilling to leverage spending, Ukraine, or any other issue to force their hand.<\/p>\n<p>We must ensure H.R. 2 reaches the president\u2019s desk and is signed into law.
