painting quickly reached $28.5 million which resulted in a fast and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/climate-activists-try-stunt-front-crowd-viewing-girl-pearl-earring-doesnt-end\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">furious<\/a> bidding war in New York to proceed for almost eight minutes, only to increase the price by $1.5 million.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sothebys.com\/en\/about\/team\/jen-hua\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jen Hua<\/a>, the Sotheby\u2019s deputy chairman wound up succeeding with the winning bid.<\/p>\n<p>Monet had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nolte-88-of-black-marylanders-want-police-budget-increased\/\" title=\"Nolte: 88% of Black Marylanders Want affected the appearance of the haystacks which drew him to want to capture these variations.<\/p>\n<p>In doing so, he created multiple versions of the same subject under different conditions of light, weather, and the time of day.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the steep price tag for this haystack painting, another one of Monet\u2019s iconic paintings of haystacks fetched a record $110.7 million at Sotheby\u2019s in May 2019, setting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/princess-dianas-gown-sets-new-auction-record\/\" title=\"Princess Diana's dress breaks auction record\">world auction record<\/a> for the artist and becoming the first Impressionist work to cross the $100 million threshold, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-claude-monet-haystack-painting-fetches-110-7m-at-ny-auction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Monet\u2019s \u201cMeules\u201d (1890) sold at the New York auction house and was just one of only four from the \u201cHaystacks\u201d series to come to auction in this this century.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the significant sale from Wednesday\u2019s auction, the <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/monet-painting-fetches-35-million-033637470.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Agence Free Presse<\/a> reported that British-Mexican artist Leonora Carrington \u2014 who died in 2011 \u2014 stole the show when she broke her own auction record.<\/p>\n<p>Carrington\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sothebys.com\/en\/buy\/auction\/2024\/modern-evening-auction\/les-distractions-de-dagobert\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Les Distractions de Dagobert<\/a>\u201d reportedly sold for $28.5 million placing her among the top five most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/anti-israel-protesters-succeed-destroying-priceless-historic-painting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">valuable<\/a> female artists at auction, according to Sotheby\u2019s, and among the top four surrealist artists, \u201covertaking Max Ernst and Salvador
