Multiple news outlets, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/fact-check-biden-inflation-9-percent-740342231608\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Associated Press<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2024\/05\/15\/bidens-false-claim-that-inflation-was-9-percent-when-he-took-office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Washington Post<\/a>, have now fact-checked that claim to be false.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the Post even gave the president its worst rating of Four Pinocchios.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo president has had the run we\u2019ve had in terms of creating jobs and bringing down inflation,\u201d the president said during the CNN interview. \u201cIt was 9 percent when I came to office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nmRIJ1mtL2M?si=uZpvrL6-2THSM6gN\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Biden also made the false <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2024\/04\/10\/remarks-by-president-biden-and-prime-minister-kishida-fumio-of-japan-in-joint-press-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claim<\/a> during a news conference last month with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. \u201cWe have dramatically reduced inflation from 9 percent down to close to 3 percent,\u201d he contended. \u201cWe\u2019re in a situation where we\u2019re better situated than we were when we took office where inflation was skyrocketing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Inflation was at 1.4 percent when Biden took over from former President Donald Trump, both the AP and the Post noted.<\/p>\n<p>The inflation rate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usinflationcalculator.com\/inflation\/historical-inflation-rates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hovered<\/a> mostly between 1 percent and 2 percent throughout much of Trump\u2019s time in office, though it did hit as high as 2.9 percent in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, the last time inflation has been below 3 percent with Biden in charge was March 2021. It hit a high of 9.1 percent in June 2022, about a year and a half into his presidency.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Do you think Trump handled the economy better than Biden?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Cavuto pressed Bernstein over Biden\u2019s false assertion that he inherited a 9 percent inflation rate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy does he keep saying that?\u201d Cavuto asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst of all, let me point out that in that very quote you played, the president talked about how concerned he was for households struggling with prices,\u201d Bernstein began to answer before Cavuto cut him off.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s not what I asked you. Why does he keep misrepresenting this?\u201d the host pressed.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9r5FW1babZA?si=vBSqCysvw6A5ae9g&#038;start=94\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s making the point that the factors that caused inflation to climb to 9 percent were in place when he took office,\u201d Bernstein said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo! That\u2019s not what he said,\u201d Cavuto shot back. \u201cHe said it was at 9 percent. It would eventually get to 9 percent a little over a year after that, but the fact of the matter is it wasn\u2019t 9 percent, so if I can\u2019t trust him with quoting data in real time, why should I believe what he\u2019s talking about now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo the annual growth in core inflation in the second quarter of 2021 was in fact about 9 percent, and his point about inflation down 60 percent off its peak is very much the case,\u201d Bernstein answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, it wasn\u2019t,\u201d Cavuto said. \u201cIt was not at that, so you\u2019re almost as bad as he is. Why can\u2019t you just say it was high? It got as high as 9 percent. You\u2019d be accurate in saying that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re just lying\u201d to try to hang it on Trump, the Fox host asserted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, hold on. I hear you.\u201d Berstein said, finally conceding some ground.<\/p>\n<p>He reiterated that Biden was trying to make a point that is \u201cunequivocally true,\u201d namely that the factors which took inflation to 9 percent were in place when he took office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is not what he said, Jared,\u201d Cavuto again noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook, I think what the American people care most about is\u2026\u201d Bernstein began to say.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs truth!\u201d Cavuto interrupted. \u201cThe American people care about truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis only works if you let me talk,\u201d Bernstein replied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou haven\u2019t answered my question. I\u2019ve asked you five times, five ways,\u201d Cavuto said.<\/p>\n<p>Bernstein then fell back on his talking point that the factors which caused inflation were in place when Biden entered office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh, boy, all right,\u201d Cavuto said.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre offered essentially the same answer that Bernstein did when asked about Biden\u2019s 9 percent inflation rate claim.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Q: Why did Biden claim, twice in one week, that inflation was 9% when he took office \u2014 when it was really 1.4%?<\/p>\n<p>KARINE JEAN-PIERRE: Well, uh, you see\u2026. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/dsiZppXQr5\">pic.twitter.com\/dsiZppXQr5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 RNC Research (@RNCResearch) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RNCResearch\/status\/1790820818093547680?\">May 15, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe point that he was making is that the factors that caused inflation was in place when he walked into the administration, when he took office,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs you know, the pandemic caused inflation around the world by disrupting our economy and breaking our supply chains.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is no doubt the lockdowns had an impact on the economy. But for the entire first year of them under Trump, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usinflationcalculator.com\/inflation\/current-inflation-rates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">inflation<\/a> remained mostly below 2 percent and, as previously noted, was 1.4 percent when he left office in January 2021, as well as 1.7 percent the following month.<\/p>\n<p>However, by April 2021, inflation had shot up to 4.2 percent and continued on an upward ascent until peaking in June 2022 at 9.1 percent.<\/p>\n<p>It remained above 6 percent at the beginning of last year before finally dropping to 3 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Former Trump and Reagan administration economist Larry Kudlow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trumps-top-economic-advisor-lays-exact-causes-inflation-biden-falsely-blaming-others\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">explained<\/a> in May 2022 that as price spikes were hitting their highest, \u201cYou had prominent Democrat economists and Republican economists a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/federal-reserve-chair-admits-his-confidence-is-rattled-as-wholesale-inflation-unexpectedly-surges\/\" title=\"Federal Reserve Chair acknowledges shaken confidence as wholesale inflation spikes unexpectedly\">year ago predict rising inflation<\/a> because of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jayapal-biden-should-use-executive-action-to-implement-build-back-better-agenda\/\" title=\"Jayapal: Biden Should Use Executive Action To Implement \u2018Build Back Better\u2019 Agenda\">huge social spending<\/a>, aggregate demand increasing, deficit financing, too much borrowing and too much money printing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then you had the war against fossil fuels at exactly the wrong time,\u201d he added, referring to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/oil-group-takes-legal-action-biden-administration-unprecedented-drilling-restrictions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biden\u2019s policy<\/a> of restricting oil production on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/gop-lawmakers-force-bidens-hand-oil-introduce-independence-russian-energy-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">federal lands<\/a> and offshore, which helped send fuel costs spiking. Gas prices remain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/federal-reserve-chair-admits-confidence-rattled-wholesale-inflation-unexpectedly-surges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">over 50 percent<\/a> higher than when Trump was in office.<\/p>\n<p>In a February 2021 opinion piece for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2021\/02\/04\/larry-summers-biden-covid-stimulus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Washington Post<\/a>, former Clinton administration Treasury Secretary Larry Summers wrote that passing the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan as the economy was already well on its way to recovery would \u201cset off inflationary pressures of a kind we have not seen in a generation, with consequences for the value of the dollar and financial stability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After it passed in March, Summers <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/finance\/544188-larry-summers-blasts-least-responsible-economic-policy-in-40-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called it<\/a> \u201cthe least responsible macroeconomic policy we\u2019ve had in the last 40 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Further, former Obama administration Treasury Department official Steven Rattner in a November 2021 article for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/11\/16\/opinion\/biden-inflation-spending-manchin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a> identified the American Rescue Plan as the \u201coriginal sin\u201d leading to the current high inflation rate.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed to Summers\u2019 warning, as well as \u201cmany others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe worried that shoveling an unprecedented amount of spending into an economy already on the road to recovery would mean too much money chasing too few goods,\u201d Rattner wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Remember that inflation began significantly rising by April with passage of the spending and implementation of Biden\u2019s new restrictive energy policies.<\/p>\n<p>The Democrats have since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fact-check-biden-loves-claim-cut-deficit-numbers-highlight-painful-truth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">passed<\/a> the misnamed Inflation Reduction Act, with costs on green initiatives alone expected to exceed $1 trillion, and the $1 trillion dollar infrastructure bill, pouring more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-spending-hundreds-billions-fed-printed-money-not-cause-inflation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve money<\/a> into the economy.<\/p>\n<p>The reason inflation has come down is because the Federal Reserve has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-10-year-treasury-yield-surges-to-highest-level-since-2007-after-fed-minutes\/\" title=\"US 10-Year Treasury Yield Soars to Pre-2007 Highs Post Fed Minutes\">raised interest rates 11 times<\/a> in recent years and the new Republican House has at least put some restraint on the Democrats\u2019 proclivity to spend trillions of dollars we do not have.<\/p>\n<p>Good job, Cavuto, for holding the Biden White House\u2019s feet to the fire.<\/p>\n<p>The president did not inherit 9 percent inflation; he and the Democrats created it.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>An Important Message from Our Staff:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>We who work here at The Western Journal have fought for years against Big Tech and the elites who want to shut us down and then shut America down. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Make no mistake \u2014 nothing will be the same after November 2024.
