The challenger, Logan \u200cOlson, expressed support for the \u2064primary incumbent, Attorney General \u200bAustin Knudsen, who benefited from higher fundraising limits due to the contested primary. The \u200dprimary challenger filed for office \u2063with financial support\u2062 from a Republican operative.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Montana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Montana<\/a> Republican said he asked his primary challenger to run against him because \u201cour campaign laws are ridiculous,\u201d and he wanted to raise more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/money\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>money<\/a>, according to a recording from a campaign event.<\/p>\n<p>Because Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen had a primary, it allowed him to fundraise more than if he had run unopposed. He says his challenger, Logan Olson, supports him and will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/voting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>vote<\/a> for him in the June 4 primary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do technically have a primary,\u201d Attorney General Austin Knudsen said last week when asked at the event who was running against him. \u201cHowever, he is a young man who I asked to run against me because our campaign laws are ridiculous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Olson <a href=\"https:\/\/prodcandidatefiling.mt.gov\/candidatefiling\/CandidateList.aspx?e=450002570\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>filed<\/a> to run against Knudsen on March 11, and in three <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/how-to-lose-the-2024-election\/\" title=\"2024 Election: Tips for Losing\">finance reports filed<\/a> for dates March 11 to May 14, listed no contributions or expenditures for his campaign. The only <a href=\"https:\/\/cers-ext.mt.gov\/CampaignTracker\/public\/publicReportList\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>data <\/a>listed is an about $1,500 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/a-new-series-of-anti-trust-bills-look-to-break-up-big-tech-heres-everything-you-need-to-know\/\" title=\"A New Series Of Anti-Trust Bills Look To Break Up Big Tech: Here\u2019s Everything You Need To Know\">filing fee<\/a> debt to Standard Consulting on his first report, and a debt to Burnt Timber Consulting LLC for $1,500 with a listed purpose of \u201cBookkeeping and Compliance for Primary Election,\u201d on his second report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did pay Logan\u2019s filing fee and helped him file for office,\u201d Chuck Denowh, a Republican operative, Knudsen donor and owner of Standard Consulting, said in an <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/montana-attorney-general-campaign-finance-primary-opponent-54b427bb9f71d51adadcf76ca244c8c6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>email<\/a> to the <em>Associated Press<\/em> on Friday. \u201cI did so because he asked me to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His third report, filed May 15, lists nothing. If Knudsen paid or \u201cpromised valuable consideration\u201d to Olson in order for him to run or drop out, he violated Montana law. Two complaints have already been filed from the Montana Democratic Party alleging that \u201cOlson is not a legitimate, good faith candidate for Attorney General,\u201d and that Knudsen already exceeded the limit for per-person fundraising without a primary opponent before Olson declared. <\/p>\n<p>There is little public information about Olson, but a LinkedIn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/logan-olson-38a14a10a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>account<\/a> says he is an \u201cattorney at the O\u2019Toole Law Firm of Plentywood and Scobey, Montana, as well as the Daniels County Attorney.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Knudsen is already facing 41 counts of professional misconduct for attempts from his office to undermine the state\u2019s Supreme Court while defending a law about judicial nominations.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> contacted Knudsen\u2019s campaign and Olson but did not receive a response.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If Knudsen wins, he will face Democrat Ben Alke, an attorney from Bozeman, in the November general election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis sort of conduct from the chief legal officer and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/law-enforcement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>law enforcement<\/a> officer of the state of Montana is inappropriate and I hope people are paying attention because this is just one of several issues with Austin Knudsen,\u201d Alke said on Thursday.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Montana Republican urged his primary challenger to run against him, citing &#8220;ridiculous&#8221; campaign laws.
