Both\u2063 parties are strategizing for the face-offs, aiming \u2062to showcase energy and cognitive \u200ccapabilities.\u200b The showdowns are scheduled for June 27 on CNN and September 10\u2063 on ABC, bypassing the Commission on Presidential Debates.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Senators have mixed feelings about forthcoming clashes between President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Joe Biden\">Joe Biden<\/a> and the presumptive GOP nominee, former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Donald Trump\">Donald Trump<\/a>, when the two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3004425\/biden-challenges-trump-two-debates-november-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Joe Biden\">take the stage for televised debates<\/a> this summer.<\/p>\n<p>The 2020 election debates between the pair devolved into mudslinging contests of who could more effectively talk over the other, likely promising more on-air entertainment in their 2024 rematch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always look forward to the Fourth of July because of the fireworks,\u201d Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-CO) said. \u201cI guess I\u2019d say the same thing about the debate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republicans hope events will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-next-supply-side-agenda\/\" title=\"The Next Supply Side Agenda\">offer voters<\/a> a direct contrast in energy and cognitive status between Biden and Trump. But some also warn Trump this time around to resist diverging from a cordial debate style by toning down off-the-cuff and bombastic rhetoric that could distract from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lebron-james-should-be-ashamed-of-himself-espns-stephen-a-smith-blasts-lebron-over-vaccines\/\" title=\"\u2018LeBron James Should Be Ashamed Of Himself\u2019: ESPN\u2019s Stephen A. Smith Blasts LeBron Over Vaccines\">broader issues<\/a>.   <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think people are worried about President Biden\u2019s ability to serve four more years,\u201d Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said. \u201cAnd can Trump handle it? Will he go off like a Roman candle, and can Biden coherently respond to questions?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Trump confidant urged the former president to \u201ctalk about what you did for the country versus what Biden\u2019s doing and you\u2019ll win hands down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Graham also quipped that \u201cas long as you can\u2019t use the teleprompter, I\u2019m good with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would let President Biden speak,\u201d Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) said. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t interrupt him. But challenge him when it\u2019s your turn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump and Biden are set to square off twice before the November election, the first on June 27 with CNN and the second on Sept. 10 with ABC. The dates were established after Biden challenged Trump on social media, which the Republican accepted. Ted Cruz (R-TX) foreshadowed the debates would be \u201cmust-watch television\u201d and advised Trump to focus on hot-button issues leading voters\u2019 concerns like crime, inflation, illegal immigration, and foreign conflicts abroad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe race should focus on the policy records of each president, and on that criterion, there\u2019s a stark difference between the two,\u201d Cruz said.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD) predicted little benefit beyond providing \u201cinteresting entertainment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think it changes any minds,\u201d he said. \u201cDepending on what time that they\u2019re doing it in the evening, I think the former president has the odds on [Biden] just because I think the current president doesn\u2019t do well in the evening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some Democrats felt similarly that the debates are unlikely to sway a sizable number of voters given this year\u2019s election is a 2020 rematch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll wait until it\u2019s over to tell you\u201d if it changed any minds, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) said.<\/p>\n<p>The second-ranking Senate Democrat doesn\u2019t \u201cexpect anything different\u201d from 2020\u2019s chaotic debates because Trump is \u201cone of the most bizarre figures in the history of American politics\u201d but is still supportive of them going head to head onstage.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) held a pessimistic view about any debates among political candidates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDebates typically really aren\u2019t meaningful or affect anything,\u201d Fetterman said. \u201cAfter everything we\u2019ve all been through collectively since 2016, is anyone going to [change from], \u2018I\u2019m with Trump, I\u2019m with Biden?\u2019 It\u2019s very clear. It\u2019s not going to really change much.
