The golfer, unaware of the situation, was released after a brief detention, with plans for a legal defense against the allegations.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/news\/\">  News <\/a>    <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/johnathanjones\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/johnathanjones\/%20\"><span>Johnathan Jones<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 17, 2024 at 2:44pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>An attorney for golfer Scottie Scheffler said a \u201cmiscommunication\u201d led to the arrest of the sport\u2019s number one player early on Friday morning in Kentucky just hours before his scheduled tee time.<\/p>\n<p>Scheffler, 27, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/wild-gets-world-no-1-golfer-scottie-scheffler-detained-police-shortly-pga-championship-tee-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was arrested<\/a> around 7 a.m. outside the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/louisville-shooter-left-two-extensive-notes-explaining-radical-left-wing-motive-killings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Louisville<\/a> and charged with a felony and several misdemeanors.<\/p>\n<p>He was booked into jail and released a few hours later after posting no bond.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney Steve Romines, who will represent the golfer in the case, spoke to the media after his client\u2019s release from jail and said that the officer who arrested Scheffler was not aware he had previously been told to bypass traffic and enter the club gate with a media pass.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the officer that was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ny-radio-host-tells-audience-f-the-police-then-allegedly-rams-nypd-officer-killing-him-before-speeding-away\/\" title=\"NY Radio Host Tells Audience \u2018F*** The Police,\u2019 Then Allegedly Rams NYPD Officer, Killing Him, Before Speeding Away\">directing traffic<\/a> was maybe not part of the event traffic detail, and so that\u2019s where the miscommunication arose and that\u2019s why we\u2019re here,\u201d Romines told reporters. \u201cHe held his media credential out and was going in like they\u2019d been instructed to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Unaware of the deadly accident, Scheffler bypassed traffic and traffic officers like usual, his lawyer said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are allowed to go through, that\u2019s why they have the credentials, it\u2019s their way through,\u201d Romines told the outlet. \u201cUnaware that there had been a wreck, he proceeded like they\u2019d been instructed to.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Just spoke with Steve Romines, lawyer for Scottie Scheffler <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WLKY?\">@WLKY<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Ui1S4q4lS7\">pic.twitter.com\/Ui1S4q4lS7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Madison Elliott (@MadisonWLKY) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MadisonWLKY\/status\/1791455105964724421?\">May 17, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The arresting officer accused <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-new-dad-scottie-scheffler-starts-pga-championship-stunning-long-range-hole\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scheffler<\/a> of dragging him with his car and refusing to comply with orders.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Should the charges against Scottie Scheffler be dropped?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Romines said that was not what happened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe did exactly as he was instructed to do to enter the premises,\u201d the attorney said.<\/p>\n<p>The arresting officer claimed to have suffered \u201cswelling\u201d and \u201cabrasions\u201d to his knee and wrist and would need to replace his pants, which were damaged.<\/p>\n<p>In Romines\u2019 full statement, he told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whas11.com\/article\/news\/crime\/attorney-scottie-scheffler-lmpd-arrest-valhalla-golf-club-pga-championship\/417-37849001-d79e-47dd-b164-b54b9b35244d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WHAS-TV<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the early hours of the morning in preparation of his tee time, Scottie was going to the course to begin his pre-round preparation. Due to the combination of event traffic and a traffic fatality in the area, it was a very chaotic situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was proceeding as directed by another traffic officer and driving a marked player\u2019s vehicle with credentials visible. In the confusion, Scottie is alleged to have disregarded a different officer\u2019s traffic signals resulting in these charges. Multiple eyewitnesses have confirmed that he did not do anything wrong but was simply proceeding as directed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The attorney concluded, \u201cHe stopped immediately upon being directed to and never at any point assaulted any officer with his vehicle.
