The\u200c filter blocks political posts from recommendation\u2064 systems to reduce exposure. Users can disable the filter in their settings to \u200bsee all content. Facebook has not implemented this feature yet. In the \u2062midst of the 2024 presidential election, Meta, the \u200bparent company of Instagram and Facebook, has rolled out\u200c a new feature to \u2063reduce the visibility of\u2064 political content on Instagram. This filter aims to limit the exposure of political posts in recommendation\u2064 systems. Users have the option to disable\u2063 the filter in their settings to view all \u200ctypes of content. Notably, Facebook has not yet incorporated this feature.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the throws of the 2024 presidential election between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, social media giant <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/meta\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Meta<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook, has taken steps to suppress political content on its platforms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The new feature rolled out <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/about.instagram.com\/blog\/announcements\/continuing-our-approach-to-political-content-on-instagram-and-threads\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">earlier this year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  prevents any content flagged as \u201cpolitical\u201d from being recommended to users on Instagram.\u00a0 Posts \u201cabout laws, elections, or social topics\u201d will not not be displayed in any of the platform\u2019s curated recommendation systems, which drives a significant amount of follower growth for platforms. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The company claims the filter is not meant to limit the exposure of any candidate or publisher specifically, and is instead meant to insulate users from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/oklahoma-teacher-quits-after-being-disciplined-for-banned-books-sign\/\" title=\"Oklahoma Teacher Quits After Being Disciplined For Banned Books Sign\">politically charged content<\/a> in general. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOur goal is to preserve the ability for people to choose to interact with political content, while respecting each person\u2019s appetite for it,\u201d Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2024\/03\/26\/1240737627\/meta-limit-political-content-instagram-facebook-opt-out\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/journalism\/fact-sheet\/social-media-and-news-fact-sheet\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  Pew Research<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, half of all American adults got their news from social media \u2013 last year 30% of all American adults consumed news on Facebook at least \u201csometimes\u201d and 16% got their news from Instagram. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>The filter was automatically implemented for all accounts by default, and has to be manually disabled by each user.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In order to disable the filter, you\u2019ll need to go to your profile page and tap the icon on the uppermost right to open \u201cSettings and Activity.\u201d From there, you\u2019ll need to scroll down to the \u201cwhat you see\u201d section, where you\u2019ll find \u201ccontent preferences.\u201d Click \u201cpolitical content,\u201d and then you\u2019ll need to select the \u201cdon\u2019t <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/instagram-and-threads-will-not-recommend-political-posts\/\" title=\"Instagram and Threads won't suggest political content\">limit political content<\/a> from people you don\u2019t follow\u201d option.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_733681\" style=\"width: 1090px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-733681\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by about.instagram.com<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As of now the feature does not appear to have been implemented on Facebook, which is still the most popular platform for online news. The Daily Wire has historically been one of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/news\/the-daily-wire-top-publisher-on-facebook-in-first-quarter-of-2022-3-of-top-5-are-right-leaning\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">top publishers on the platform<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  \u2013 last year it was revealed that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-admin-pressured-fb-to-suppress-daily-wire-content-push-users-to-legacy-outlets-newly-released-docs\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">officials from the Biden administration pressured Meta to redirect traffic away from right-leaning <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">outlets, and specifically singled out The Daily Wire as a site they wanted to censor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The policy has been criticized as overly broad \u2013 the filter is applied to all accounts by default and has to manually be disabled. Meta has also been criticized for limiting voter access to information about candidates and causes during an election year.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"image\"><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, has taken a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/brazilian-supreme-court-takes-on-elon-musk-and-x-in-social-media-crackdown\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/big-tech-is-filtering-the-politics-out-of-your-instagram-feed-heres-how-to-stop-them\/\" title=\"Prevent Big Tech from Filtering Politics on Instagram.
