The Justice Department&#8217;s executive \u2064privilege \u200dassertion hinders House Republicans in accessing the tapes.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/house-oversight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>House Oversight<\/a> Committee Chairman <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/james-comer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>James Comer<\/a> (R-KY) is fundraising off of President <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a>\u2018s assertion of executive privilege as Republicans attempt to get their hands on tapes of special counsel <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/robert-k-hur\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Robert Hur<\/a>\u2018s interview with the president.<\/p>\n<p>In an email obtained by the <em>Washington Examiner,<\/em> Comer says that Biden and his advisers are \u201cterrified\u201d of the audio recordings from the interview, centered on Biden\u2019s handling of classified documents, because their release would force them to answer for \u201cthe dismal decline of Biden\u2019s mental state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Democrats are pulling out all the stops to stop the bleeding, and that means coming after me with everything they have,\u201d Comer said in an email addressed to supporters. \u201cIf you\u2019re able, I\u2019d be so grateful if you\u2019d consider making a donation to my campaign, I sure need it to defend against the onslaught of attacks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The fundraising email comes after the Justice Department announced Thursday morning that the president was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3006125\/biden-asserts-executive-privilege-hur-tapes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lefty-professor-demanding-justice-thomas-recuse-over-wifes-texts-accidentally-explains-why-he-shouldnt\/\" title=\"Lefty Professor Demanding Justice Thomas Recuse Over Wife\u2019s Texts Accidentally Explains Why He Shouldn\u2019t\">asserting executive privilege<\/a><\/a> over the recordings, placing another roadblock in the way of House Republicans as they continue to argue with the DOJ over whether Congress should have access.<\/p>\n<p>The House Judiciary and House Oversight committees <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3006451\/judiciary-committee-passes-merrick-garland-contempt-resolution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>passed contempt resolutions<\/a> for Attorney General Merrick Garland on Thursday, allowing them to be brought to the floor for a full House vote. Republicans argue that Biden\u2019s executive privilege assertion was a politicized move, as the DOJ informed Congress shortly before the start of the Judiciary hearing.<\/p>\n<p>Comer, Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), and other GOP lawmakers said the audio recordings would shed light on the 81-year-old Biden\u2019s cognitive abilities. In March, Hur released a bombshell report in his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fbi-conducts-search-of-mike-pences-indiana-home-in-classified-documents-investigation\/\" title=\"FBI Conducts Search of Mike Pence's Indiana Home in Classified Documents Investigation\">classified documents investigation<\/a> in which he argued Biden should not be prosecuted, in part because a jury would find him to be a \u201cwell-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis could be the final blow to Biden with swing voters across the country,\u201d Comer said in his fundraising email. \u201cYou and I know he\u2019s not up for the job, but the mainstream media\u2019s refusal to report on it is the only thing keeping him in the game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democrats pushed back on Republicans\u2019 claims that the audio recordings were necessary, accusing the GOP of wanting the audio recording for \u201cDonald Trump\u2019s campaign commercials\u201d or to use Biden\u2019s stutter to \u201csmear\u201d him.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the Oversight Committee hearing on Thursday night, Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) presented and read Comer\u2019s fundraising email out loud in dramatic fashion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s on lovely stationery.
