On Wednesday, Brenner formally pleaded guilty to Rounds\u2019 murder, the Box Elder County Attorney\u2019s Office said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=843865617761943&#038;set=a.300843895397454\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Brenner had reached a plea deal with prosecutors that required him to tell authorities where Rounds\u2019 body had been left.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn exchange, Brenner received a reduction from first-degree felony aggravated murder to second<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/snl-weekend-update-falls-flat-with-rittenhouse-jokes-hopefully-he-got-all-of-that-shooting-out-of-his-system\/\" title=\"'SNL' Weekend Update Falls Flat with Rittenhouse Jokes: 'Hopefully He Got All of That Shooting out of His System'\">-degree felony murder<\/a>. The second charge, desecration of human remains, was dismissed,\u201d the attorney\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n<p>Brenner also pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of a firearm by a restricted person. His plea agreement closed three cases, two of which related to Rounds. The third case involved an aggravated assault and was not related to Rounds.<\/p>\n<p>Under the plea agreement, Brenner will be sentenced for each charge and will serve his time consecutively. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 1.<\/p>\n<p>Rounds disappeared in 2022 after speaking with his grandmother on the phone, the New York Post <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/04\/09\/us-news\/utah-teen-dylan-rounds-presumed-skeletal-remains-found-as-james-brenner-faces-murder-charge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn April 9, 2024, skeletal remains presumed to belong to Dylan Rounds were recovered in the remote western Box Elder County area of Lucin,\u201d the Box Elder County Sheriff\u2019s Office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/people\/Box-Elder-County-Sheriffs-Office\/100069247537764\/?locale=fr_FR&#038;paipv=0&#038;eav=AfYYbTyirhqFGyQDGp1dWy8CiMi5VWmwtULb7Dh1A9OOx90NRwvfGqm5k2rH16VLPWk&#038;_rdr\">said<\/a> on Facebook. \u201cThe FBI assisted the Box Elder County Sheriff\u2019s Office by processing the area for evidence and recovering the remains.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1715966858845000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0CjpKbgEgpCXchCtotzUFs\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Brenner was squatting on land next to Rounds\u2019 trailer when he allegedly murdered the teen, East Idaho News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastidahonews.com\/2023\/06\/james-brenner-man-accused-of-killing-dylan-rounds-appears-in-utah-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> last year, and was charged with one count of aggravated murder and one count of abuse or desecration of a human body. Brenner had a violent criminal history and had been arrested on outstanding warrants in June 2022 before authorities announced that he was a suspect in Rounds\u2019 disappearance.<\/p>\n<p>During a hearing last year, Brenner appeared with a limp, prompting Rounds\u2019 parents to accuse him of attention-seeking behavior.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s despicable. His whole act of limping around is a complete act,\u201d Rounds\u2019 mother, Candice Cooley, told East Idaho News at the time. \u201cI don\u2019t know if it\u2019s so we think he\u2019s going to die or make him some sort of deal but he wants people to feel sorry for him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe looks for attention to have people feel sorry for him. That\u2019s all. I think it\u2019s an act,\u201d Rounds\u2019 father, Justin, told the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur hearts go out to the family of Dylan Rounds,\u201d the sheriff\u2019s office <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/04\/09\/us-news\/utah-teen-dylan-rounds-presumed-skeletal-remains-found-as-james-brenner-faces-murder-charge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cWe offer our sincerest condolences for the loss of their family member.
