John Kennedy of Louisiana was at his best, using his sardonic wit to destroy Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Chairman Martin Gruenberg during a hearing on a recent report detailing widespread misconduct within the agency\u2019s workplace culture.<\/p>\n<p>The hearing before the Senate Banking Committee was initially called to broadly oversee financial regulators, but the explosive revelations in an independent report by law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen\u00a0&#038;\u00a0Hamilton took center stage.<\/p>\n<p>The report described a hostile <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fdic-seizes-republic-first-bank-sells-competitor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FDIC<\/a> environment marred by stalking, harassment, homophobia, and other violations based on over 500 employee complaints, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/wireStory\/fdic-chair-grilled-capitol-hill-after-report-outlines-110311596\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly one-tenth of employees reported incidents of misconduct through the law firm\u2019s tip line, indicative of a \u201cmisogynistic,\u201d \u201cpatriarchal,\u201d \u201cinsular,\u201d and \u201coutdated\u201d workplace environment, according to the report, the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/05\/16\/john-kennedy-grills-head-federal-agency-rocked-sex-scandal\/#:~:text=Kennedy%20followed%20up%2C%20to%20which,its%20investigation%20of%20the%20agency.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daily Caller<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>Among the complaints cited in the report was a female employee who stated she was persistently stalked and harassed by a male coworker, even after reporting his behavior, per ABC. Another complaint involved a field office supervisor making <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/abused-child-actors-dad-called-homophobic-trying-report-touchy-nickelodeon-producer-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">homophobic<\/a> remarks. Additionally, a female field examiner reported receiving an unsolicited and inappropriate picture showing a senior examiner\u2019s genitalia.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-scared-death-sen-john-kennedy-calls-presidents-fear-going-hamas-wing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sen. Have you read this report?\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ibNV1qg7gY\">pic.twitter.com\/ibNV1qg7gY<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 CSPAN (@cspan) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cspan\/status\/1791130129281786203?\">May 16, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Kennedy pointed out that Gruenberg has been the chairman of the FDIC for 10 of the last 13 years and has been there for almost 20 years and that \u201cthis sleaze has been going on for decades.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy then went on to grill the FDIC chair, reading out extremely disturbing and graphic complaints from employees about sexual harassment and racism displayed in the workplace, especially from supervisors.<\/p>\n<p>The senator warned Gruenberg that he would be too preoccupied defending himself in court to effectively address the agency\u2019s issues. \u201cYou\u2019re not going to be able to clean up the FDIC because you\u2019re going to be too busy defending yourself in court,\u201d Kennedy stated, promising to introduce legislation extending the statute of limitations to allow every employee of the FDIC to file lawsuits over the reported abuse and discrimination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re\u00a0going to be spending all your time in court,\u201d\u00a0Kennedy said.<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy went on to point out that the Cleary Gottlieb report had some very critical things to say about Gruenberg himself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt says that even your senior leaders feel \u2018disrespected, disparaged and treated unfairly\u2019 by you,\u201d Kennedy said.<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy went on to quote the report, which stated that Gruenberg\u2019s \u201clong tenure and reputation for losing [his] temper and bullying people \u2018presents unique challenges&#8217;\u201d for him to change the agency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you read that part?\u201d\u00a0Kennedy asked Gruenberg.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing a sardonic comparison, Kennedy declared, \u201cYou fixing this agency, Mr. Gruenberg, is like asking, it\u2019s like asking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/alec-baldwin-admits-hard-drug-use-past-dont-discuss-lot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alec Baldwin<\/a> to conduct a course in gun safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou ought to be ashamed of yourself,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>When asked if he had ever read a worse report in all his years, Gruenberg acknowledged, \u201cIt\u2019s a bad report, senator.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0bad,\u201d\u00a0Kennedy replied.<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy said he was embarrassed to even read some of the allegations in the report, which was pretty shocking to hear since the ones he had read would have made a sailor blush.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Do you like John Kennedy?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Pointing to some FDIC employees sitting in the first row behind Gruenberg, Kennedy asked, \u201cWould you like to turn around and apologize to the female employees sitting behind you of the FDIC?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have, senator,\u201d Gruenberg replied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWould you do that now?\u201d\u00a0Kennedy pressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you ask me to, I will,\u201d\u00a0Gruenberg acquiesced.<\/p>\n<p>Turning around, Gruenberg nodded toward a female employee and mumbled an apology.<\/p>\n<p>Capping off his blistering rebuke with a mic drop, Kennedy bluntly said: \u201cAnd now, I think you ought to resign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The FDIC\u2019s workplace misconduct scandal has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/analyst-weighs-in-on-daniel-penny-chokehold-case\/\" title=\"Expert analyzes Daniel Penny's chokehold case.\">garnered significant attention<\/a>, with reports of a rape at an FDIC-owned hotel in 2017 and allegations that the agency\u2019s facilities were used for partying, according to police records and reports from conservative watchdog groups, the Daily Caller reported.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, leading House Republicans sent a <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Letter-to-Presiden-Biden-re-Chairman-Gruenburg-050824.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">scathing letter<\/a> to President Joe Biden, questioning why he had not fired Gruenberg in light of the report of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-documents-1000-cases-of-state-sponsored-slavery-in-cuba\/\" title=\"Report Documents 1000+ Cases of State-Sponsored Slavery in Cuba\">widespread sexual harassment<\/a>, bullying, and discrimination at the agency under Gruenberg\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n<p>The letter was signed by House Oversight Committee Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/icymi-james-comer-made-special-addition-hearing-chamber-just-hunter-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James Comer<\/a> of Kentucky, Rep. Lisa McClain of Michigan and Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/andy-biggs-explains-key-quality-make-best-speaker-mccarthy-isnt-going-like\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andy Biggs<\/a> of Arizona. It demanded the Biden administration provide all documents and communications related to its response to the allegations.<\/p>\n<p>The letter referenced Biden\u2019s previous statements emphasizing the importance of workplace civility, including a quote from early in his presidency where he said, \u201cI\u2019m not joking when I say this: If you ever work with me and I hear you treat another colleague with disrespect, talk down to someone, I promise you I will fire you on the spot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn light of the report\u2019s findings and your early lip service to the principle of workplace civility, why have you not fired Chairman Gruenberg?
