The records suggested a different talk with Trump&#8217;s bodyguard, casting doubt on Cohen&#8217;s testimony.\u200b This \u200cdiscrepancy sparked \u2064intense\u2062 courtroom exchanges as \u2062Cohen&#8217;s \u2064credibility was questioned.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Donald Trump\u2019s defense attorney accused <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/michael-cohen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Michael Cohen\">Michael Cohen<\/a> on Thursday of lying on the witness stand during the former president\u2019s hush money trial, saying phone records discredited Cohen\u2019s prior testimony.<\/p>\n<p>Trump attorney Todd Blanche <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2024\/05\/16\/trump-hush-money-criminal-trial\/tempers-flare-over-pivotal-phone-call-00158403\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>presented<\/a> evidence of call logs and text messages while cross-examining Cohen and compared them to details Cohen gave prosecutors two days ago about a key conversation he allegedly had with Trump about porn star Stormy Daniels, according to courtroom updates from <em>Politico<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The evidence revealed that on the evening of Oct. 24, 2016, the same time as the alleged conversation about Daniels, Cohen messaged Trump\u2019s bodyguard Keith Schiller about harassing calls Cohen had been receiving from a 14-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>The phone logs showed Schiller called Cohen back a few minutes later and left a voicemail and that Cohen then returned Schiller\u2019s call and had a conversation that lasted about a minute and a half.<\/p>\n<p>Blanche pressed Cohen on how the call could have possibly been about Daniels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was a lie,\u201d Blanche shrieked in reference to Cohen\u2019s prior testimony. \u201cYou can admit it.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Defense attorney Todd Blanche stands making the swearing-in\u2019hand gesture when cross-examining Michael Cohen, as Donald Trump, left, looks on with Judge Juan Merchan presiding, Thursday, May 16, 2024, in New York. (Elizabeth Williams via AP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Prosecutors had asked Cohen on Monday about the call, and Cohen replied that he called Schiller because he knew Trump was with his bodyguard.<\/p>\n<p>Cohen testified that he called \u201cto discuss the Stormy Daniels matter and the resolution of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The call occurred three days before Cohen wired a $130,000 payment to Daniels as part of a settlement agreement. The agreement involved Daniels staying silent right before the 2016 election about a claim that she once had a sexual encounter with Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, an elected Democrat, faces the challenge of convincing a jury that Trump conspired with Cohen to make the payment and knowingly concealed it in his financial records.<\/p>\n<p>The call on Oct. 24 is one of only a few instances Bragg can point to that could prove Trump was informed about Daniels and the payment. But that evidence is entirely reliant on Cohen\u2019s recollection, and Cohen\u2019s credibility has been a glaring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3006401\/trump-trial-cohen-gets-animated-defense-frames-him-serial-liar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>concern<\/a> during the trial.<\/p>\n<p>Cohen began to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-only-commits-to-1-4k-stimulus-checks-in-private-call-with-democrats\/\" title=\"Biden only commits to .4K stimulus checks in private call with Democrats\">walk back<\/a> his testimony from Monday, telling Blanche \u201cpart of\u201d the call was about the 14-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou had enough time in one minute and 36 seconds to update Mr. Schiller about all the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/staffing-crisis-shrinking-police-force-will-no-longer-respond-to-some-crimes-in-liberal-nc-city-that-cut-funding\/\" title=\"\u2018Staffing Crisis\u2019: Shrinking Police Force Will No Longer Respond To Some Crimes In Liberal NC City That Cut Funding\">harassing phone calls<\/a> and the update on Stormy Daniels?\u201d Blanche asked incredulously.<\/p>\n<p>When Blanche told Cohen he could admit he was lying, Cohen replied that his belief was that the conversation was about Daniels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, sir, I can\u2019t [admit it],\u201d Cohen said. \u201cI believe that I also spoke to Mr. Trump and told him everything regarding Stormy Daniels was being worked on and it\u2019s going to be resolved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not asking for your belief,\u201d Blanche shot back. \u201cThis jury doesn\u2019t want to hear what you think happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Blanche also clarified with Cohen that at no time in past depositions or statements did Cohen ever say the Oct. 24 call was about Daniels.
