But the incumbent took his indifference to the weaponization of law a step further: he is now fundraising off the lawfare circus. <\/p>\n<p>Biden released a 14-second clip on Wednesday in which he finally agreed to debate Trump \u2014 after <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/video\/pennsylvania-donald-trump-2024-united-states-presidential-election-israel-political-debates-daf66e0d86304068ba3dbb6abb7acd3f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dodging<\/a> the possibility for months. Biden closed out his highly-edited video by mocking Trump\u2019s limited availability to \u2014 simply put \u2014 be a presidential candidate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo let\u2019s pick the dates, Donald,\u201d Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoeBiden\/status\/1790713878248038478\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cI hear you\u2019re free on Wednesdays.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.joebiden.com\/free-on-wednesdays-shirt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">doubled down<\/a> by releasing a $32 T-shirt that says \u201cFree On Wednesdays.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/desantis-hits-iowa-campaign-milestone-but-is-still-far-behind-trump-who-again-mocked-his-campaign\/\" title=\"DeSantis reaches Iowa milestone, but Trump still leads and mocks his campaign\">mocking remarks<\/a> are a reference to the Democrat campaign strategy of weaponizing lawfare against Trump, as Biden trails in the polls. As Democrats hold out hope the lawfare circus will boost Biden\u2019s popularity, they\u2019ve expressed <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/15\/wapo-opinion-editor-upset-lawfare-trials-arent-kneecapping-trump-as-intended\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shock<\/a> that Trump is \u201cstill ahead of Biden in recent polls\u201d and wondered why the lawfare campaigns are \u201cnot hurting\u201d Trump. A newly released New York Times\/Siena College poll finds despite Democrats\u2019 best efforts, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/15\/republicans-need-to-chase-ballots-from-every-low-turnout-voter-who-polls-for-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trump leads Biden<\/a> overall in five key swing states among registered and likely voters.<\/p>\n<p>Since his first lawfare trial began in April, Trump has been forced to appear in person every day \u2014 except most Wednesdays \u2014 at a Manhattan courthouse. District Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/13\/paralegal-testimony-alvin-braggs-office-tampered-with-evidence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alvin Bragg<\/a> indicted him last April on 34 charges related to falsifying business records, based on a payment made by Trump\u2019s then-lawyer to buy the story of a pornographer who claimed to have had an affair with Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s comment Wednesday wasn\u2019t the first time he has made the weaponization of the justice system against his opponent the butt of a joke.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-independent.com\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/biden-trump-debt-remarks-2024-b2516386.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> by The Independent, Biden attempted to humor some of his donors by gloating that a separate lawfare campaign was bankrupting the former president.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Mr. Biden, who was on the second day of a three-day trip to several Western states, told attendees at the campaign event that a person had approached him to talk about a high debt burden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust the other day this defeated looking man came up to me and said: \u2018Mr. President I need your help. I\u2019m in crushing debt. I\u2019m completely wiped out,\u201d\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>After a moment, Mr. Biden delivered the punchline, telling the crowd that he had responded: \u201cDonald, I\u2019m sorry. I can\u2019t help you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The fundraiser attendees, who numbered roughly 100, erupted into laughs. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Biden was referring to New York Attorney General Letitia James\u2019 lawfare case against the former president in which Trump was found liable for inflating his net worth to secure loans despite a complete lack of any victims.
