The\u2062 conflicting views on the privilege claims \u2063and the necessity \u2063of the\u200d recordings fuel the ongoing debate.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/joe-biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Biden<\/a> has asserted executive privilege over audio recordings from special counsel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/robert-hur\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Robert Hur<\/a>\u2018s investigation into Biden\u2019s handling of classified documents that further raised questions about the commander-in-chief\u2019s mental acuity as he runs for a second term.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was conveyed to House leaders on Thursday in the hours before a pair of GOP-led committees were expected to move forward with contempt of Congress proceedings against Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/merrick-garland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Merrick Garland<\/a> for refusing to fully comply with subpoenas from February that demanded tapes of Hur\u2019s two-day interview with Biden and of the special counsel\u2019s interview with Biden\u2019s ghostwriter, Mark Zwonitzer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is the longstanding position of the executive branch held by administrations of both parties that an official who asserts the President\u2019s claim of executive privilege cannot be prosecuted for criminal contempt of Congress,\u201d Assistant Attorney General Carlos Uriarte <a href=\"https:\/\/punchbowl.news\/doj-executive-privilege\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote in a letter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>House Oversight Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/james-comer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James Comer<\/a> (R-KY) and Judiciary Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/jim-jordan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jim Jordan<\/a> (R-OH) received the letter ahead of their panels\u2019 scheduled meetings on Thursday to initiate contempt of Congress proceedings against Garland over the audio. The sought-after materials \u201care necessary to determine whether sufficient grounds exist to draft\u201d articles of impeachment against Biden, said a recent House Judiciary <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/Garland%20Contempt%20Report%20re%20Hur%20Report%20Materials_ANS.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rep.
