The union&#8217;s president affirmed support for \u2063the guidelines.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>A Minnesota teachers union has reportedly expelled one of its members, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/elementary-school-equity-presentation-insinuates-hispanic-students-struggle-in-education-system-because-they-face-deportation-threats\/\" title=\"Elementary School \u2018Equity\u2019 Presentation Insinuates Hispanic Students Struggle In Education System Because They Face \u2018Deportation Threats\u2019\">school counselor<\/a> who blew the whistle on the school district\u2019s transgender policies.<\/p>\n<p>Elementary student counselor Christina Barton received a letter from her union, the Rochester Education Association informing her that she was being kicked out, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20240515015012\/https:\/\/www.postbulletin.com\/news\/local\/rochester-teachers-union-expels-counselor-for-mischaracterizing-the-districts-transgender-guidelines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20240515015012\/https:\/\/www.postbulletin.com\/news\/local\/rochester-teachers-union-expels-counselor-for-mischaracterizing-the-districts-transgender-guidelines&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1715895013138000&#038;usg=AOvVaw1m4phWSLvLBjmxekbrCa-Z\">according<\/a> to local newspaper the Post Bulletin.<\/p>\n<p>The union accused Barton of violating the National Education Association\u2019s \u201ccode of ethics,\u201d saying she\u00a0\u201cmischaracterized Rochester Public Schools policies and practices regarding LGBTQ+ students, spoke negatively of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/a-list-actors-rally-in-support-of-sag-aftra-strike-we-have-to-get-tough-in-support-of-rank-and-file-workers\/\" title=\"Top actors unite to back SAG-AFTRA strike: 'We must stand strong' for 'regular' workers.\">fellow union members<\/a>, and spread misinformation about transgender youth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cREA recognizes that you are free to hold whatever viewpoints you wish regarding LGBTQ+ students or any other matter, but viewpoints are not free from consequences, especially if they cause or contribute to unprofessional behavior,\u201d the letter <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20240515015012\/https:\/\/www.postbulletin.com\/news\/local\/rochester-teachers-union-expels-counselor-for-mischaracterizing-the-districts-transgender-guidelines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20240515015012\/https:\/\/www.postbulletin.com\/news\/local\/rochester-teachers-union-expels-counselor-for-mischaracterizing-the-districts-transgender-guidelines&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1715895013138000&#038;usg=AOvVaw1m4phWSLvLBjmxekbrCa-Z\">read<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The union\u2019s president, Vince Wagner said the union\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/members-of-nyc-pride-group-vote-to-overturn-ban-on-police-parade-board-says-cops-still-cant-march\/\" title=\"Members Of NYC Pride Group Vote To Overturn Ban On Police, Parade Board Says Cops Still Can\u2019t March\">executive board voted<\/a> to expel Barton earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a lot of discussion and deliberation,\u201d Wagner told the Post Bulletin. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t something we undertook lightly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barton previously criticized the school district for not informing parents when their children change their gender identity.<\/p>\n<p>She spoke to the school board twice on March 19 and again on May 7, the day before the union expelled her, expressing her concerns about the district\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.vev.design\/private\/fqyfdrVOk4g7fDyyD5tPSdtwLKo1\/3eue-transgender-student-support-guidelines-2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/cdn.vev.design\/private\/fqyfdrVOk4g7fDyyD5tPSdtwLKo1\/3eue-transgender-student-support-guidelines-2.pdf&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1715895013138000&#038;usg=AOvVaw3MU5sKXJEdJE60vkf2uV4v\">guidelines<\/a> on trans-identifying students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow would a parent know how to request such information if they aren\u2019t aware their child is struggling with gender dysphoria? How would a parent be able to care for and support their student if the school never reached out to them,\u201d she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mprnews.org\/story\/2024\/05\/13\/rochester-public-schools-move-to-formalize-procedure-for-helping-transgender-kids\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.mprnews.org\/story\/2024\/05\/13\/rochester-public-schools-move-to-formalize-procedure-for-helping-transgender-kids&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1715895013138000&#038;usg=AOvVaw094_MIUlD4wEFzLfCibuR1\">said<\/a> at one of the board meetings.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Wagner, the union president read a statement during a school board meeting expressing the union\u2019s explicit support for the district\u2019s transgender guidelines.
