Bryan Steil (R-WI), seeks \u2064to restrict contributions \u200bfrom foreign nationals to \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/georgias-election-integrity-act-everything-you-need-to-know\/\" title=\"Georgia\u2019s Election Integrity Act: Everything You Need To Know\">election operations<\/a> to safeguard American elections \u200cfrom foreign influence.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>A House bill introduced Wednesday would modernize legislation barring foreign money from influencing U.S. elections, closing loopholes that have been leveraged by foreign billionaires to get involved in American politics, its authors told The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cPreventing Foreign Interference in American Elections Act,\u201d introduced by Rep. Bryan Steil (R-WI) and first <a href=\"https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2024\/05\/FOREIGN2_xml62.pdf\">obtained by The Daily Wire<\/a>, would amend a 1971 law to \u201cfurther restrict contributions of foreign nationals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The law would not only bar foreign nationals from making direct contributions to candidates and political groups, but also to groups that collect ballots, register voters, or conduct get-out-the-vote efforts. Steil says these loopholes have allowed foreign billionaires to fund indirect election efforts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmerican elections must be free from foreign influence. By closing loopholes that allow foreign nationals from funding elections operations, we are one step closer in preventing foreign involvement in American elections,\u201d Steil told The Daily Wire. \u201cI\u2019m committed to stopping foreign influence in U.S. elections and protecting U.S. donor privacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Experts say current statutes have proven inadequate in the complex modern age of political finance. Caitlin Sutherland, the executive director of Americans for Public Trust, which has worked to make stopping foreign influence in elections a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/beto-orourke-wants-you-to-know-hell-take-it-all-day-long-if-you-fck-with-him-on-politics\/\" title=\"Beto O\u2019Rourke Wants You To Know He\u2019ll \u2018Take It All Day Long\u2019 If You \u2018F*ck\u2019 With Him \u2018On Politics\u2019\">major political issue<\/a>, celebrated the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor too long, loopholes in our laws have allowed Swiss billionaire Hansj\u00f6rg Wyss to pour hundreds of millions of dollars into organizations directly and indirectly influencing politics and elections,\u201d Sutherland told The Daily Wire. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing stopping foreign adversaries from China, North Korea, or Russia from doing the same. This commonsense legislation will help safeguard our politics from foreign meddling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If passed, the new legislation would bar foreign nationals from giving donations to support \u201cany public communication that refers to a clearly identified Federal, State, or local political party\u201d or \u201cthe administration of a Federal, State, or local election.\u201d The bill also refines existing legislation to create penalties for \u201cindirect contributions\u201d from foreign nationals who give funds to American citizens with the intent of the money being used for the aforementioned activities.<\/p>\n<p>Sutherland\u2019s group <a href=\"https:\/\/americansforpublictrust.org\/news\/report-left-wing-swiss-billionaire-exploiting-the-foreign-influence-loophole\/\">found<\/a> that\u00a0Wyss-funded nonprofits, including the Wyss Foundation and the Berger Fund, have spent $475 million influencing U.S. politics.\u00a0It found that $265 million of the money from the Wyss nonprofits went to Arabella Advisors, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-lawsuit-will-be-filed-today-against-mark-zuckerberg-and-the-dark-money-that-enabled-fraud-in-key-states-video\/\" title=\"NEW LAWSUIT Will Be Filed Today Against Mark Zuckerberg and the Dark Money that Enabled Fraud in Key States (VIDEO)\">dark money network<\/a> that supports liberal causes across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Stephanie Bice (R-OK), a co-sponsor of the legislation, also singled out Wyss when pointing to the impact foreign billionaires have had in American politics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndividuals like Hansj\u00f6rg Wyss should not be allowed to use loopholes to bankroll liberal groups such as the 1630 Fund or Arabella Advisors,\u201d Bice asserted. \u201cWe must ensure that foreign individuals or even foreign adversaries are not corrupting our political processes with money or influence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A House bill aims to update laws preventing foreign funds from impacting U.S. elections, addressing loopholes exploited by foreign billionaires in American politics.
