Boeing is at risk of prosecution for not meeting its 2021 commitments to prevent criminal\u2064 charges, with ongoing investigations uncovering quality control deficiencies across its operations.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/news\/\">  News <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/russdavis\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/russdavis\/%20\"><span>Jack Davis<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 15, 2024 at 8:35am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>The Justice Department has said Boeing could face criminal prosecution because it did not live up to its word.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, Boeing signed an agreement that avoided criminal prosecution connected with two 737 MAX crashes in 2018 and 2019 that killed 346 people.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, the Justice Department <a href=\"https:\/\/s3.documentcloud.org\/documents\/24662668\/05142024-doj-letter-4-21-cr-5-usa-v-boeing.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> the judge responsible for overseeing the 2021 agreement that \u201cthe Government has determined that Boeing breached its obligations\u201d under a deferred prosecution agreement \u00a0\u201cby failing to design, implement, and enforce a compliance and ethics program to prevent and detect violations of the U.S. fraud laws throughout its operations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor failing to fulfill completely the terms of and obligations under the DPA, Boeing is subject to prosecution by the United States for any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/doj-targets-boeing-says-it-breached-2021-deferred-prosecution-agreement\/\" title=\"DOJ Takes Aim at Boeing for Violating 2021 Agreement\">federal criminal violation<\/a> of which the United States has knowledge,\u201d the letter said.<\/p>\n<p>The finding came as officials delve into Boeing\u2019s quality control procedures after a Jan. 5 incident in which a panel blew off a Boeing 737 MAX 9 jet. That incident took place two days before the 2021 agreement was set to expire, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/aerospace-defense\/us-says-boeing-breached-2021-deferred-prosecution-737-max-agreement-2024-05-14\/#:~:text=The%20Justice%20Department%20said%20in,fraud%20laws%20throughout%20its%20operations.%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Passengers on the flight were later informed by the FBI that they might be crime victims, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2024\/05\/14\/boeing-department-of-justice-criminal-liability\/73692655007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USA Today<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since that incident, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/sudden-deaths-2-boeing-whistleblowers-10-stepping-forward-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">whistleblowers<\/a> and investigators have come forward to claim there are multiple shortfalls in the company\u2019s quality control procedures that cover multiple sites and multiple aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>Reuters said the Justice Department\u2019s action could lead to criminal prosecution over the 2018 and 2019 crashes, which would not only carry huge fines, but further erode Boeing\u2019s public image.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Should Boeing face criminal charges?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Boeing has to respond by June 13, the letter said. The Justice Department will decide whether it will prosecute Boeing by July 7.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/boeing-737-catches-fire-failed-takeoff-attempt-screaming-passengers-scramble-evacuate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boeing<\/a> said it has adhered to the agreement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe that we have honored the terms of that agreement, and look forward to the opportunity to respond to the Department on this issue,\u201d Boeing said in a statement, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we do so, we will engage with the Department with the utmost transparency, as we have throughout the entire term of the agreement, including in response to their questions following the Alaska Airlines 1282 accident,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Cassell, a lawyer who represents the families of the victims of the 2018 and 2019 crashes, said the families will meet with the Justice Department on May 31 about the case, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/05\/14\/business\/boeing-justice-department-settlement.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a positive first step and, for the families, a long time coming,\u201d Cassell said. \u201cBut we need to see further action from DOJ to hold Boeing accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In summing up Boeing\u2019s recent problems, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/05\/14\/business\/boeing-justice-department-criminal-prosecution\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a> noted that the plane involved in the door panel incident did not have the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/737-lost-door-ticking-time-bomb-moment-left-boeing-factory-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">four bolts<\/a> needed to keep the door in place when it left the factory.
