Secretary of \u200cState Frank\u200c LaRose\u2064 issued a\u200c directive\u200d for the removal of non-citizens from voter rolls. The state aims to conduct annual reviews to uphold citizenship requirements for voting. Measures include \u200caccessing federal databases for citizenship data. This action aligns with Ohioans&#8217; constitutional mandate for U.S. citizens-only voting.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<figure>                         <\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Ohio is launching additional measures to ensure foreign nationals aren\u2019t voting in elections, the state\u2019s leading election official announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>According to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohiosos.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/2024\/2024-05-14a\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">office press release<\/a>, LaRose, a Republican, issued a directive to the state\u2019s 88 county boards of elections \u201cinitiating a confirmation and removal process of non-citizens from the state\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-255000-excess-votes-for-biden-in-key-2020-states\/\" title=\"Report: 255,000 Excess Votes for Biden in Key 2020 States\">voter registration rolls<\/a>.\u201d LaRose\u2019s office will also be taking further steps to \u201cconduct an annual review of the statewide voter registration database to identify persons who appear not to be United States citizens,\u201d as required by state law. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is my duty under the law to uphold the constitution, and the legislature has explicitly tasked me with ensuring that only eligible citizens can register and vote,\u201d Secretary of State Frank LaRose said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p>More than three-quarters (76.9 percent) of Ohio voters <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Ohio_Issue_2,_Citizenship_Voting_Requirement_Amendment_(2022)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">passed<\/a> a constitutional amendment proposal during the 2022 midterms stipulating \u201conly\u201d U.S. citizens can vote in state and local elections. <\/p>\n<p><strong>[READNEXT:[READNEXT:<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/04\/24\/one-word-in-your-state-constitution-could-open-up-your-elections-to-foreign-nationals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">One Word In Your State Constitution Could Open Up Your Elections To Foreign Nationals<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A recent review of Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) identification records conducted by the Secretary of State\u2019s Public Integrity Division and Office of Data Analytics and Archives discovered 137 voter registrations \u201cassigned to Ohio residents who have twice confirmed their non-citizenship status to the BMV,\u201d according to LaRose\u2019s office. <a href=\"https:\/\/codes.ohio.gov\/ohio-revised-code\/section-3503.152\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ohio law<\/a> mandates there be two instances of an individual submitting records to the BMV indicating he is not a U.S. citizen \u2014 once before and once after he votes or registers to vote \u2014 before the secretary of state can begin the process of removing him from voter rolls.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals identified under this statute as potential noncitizens will receive up to two notices from the secretary of state\u2019s office, \u201cinstructing the person either to confirm that the person is a United States citizen or to submit a completed voter registration cancellation form to the secretary of state.\u201d Failure to respond \u201cnot later than thirty days after the second notice is sent\u201d will prompt the secretary of state to \u201crefer the matter to the attorney general for further investigation and possible prosecution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohiosos.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/2024\/2024-05-14a\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Other steps<\/a> announced Tuesday include requests to the Biden administration for access to citizenship data from a series of federal agencies, which LaRose\u2019s office says will help it identify potential noncitizens on Ohio\u2019s voter rolls. LaRose requested access to \u201ca U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services resource used to verify citizenship status\u201d known as the SAVE database, and \u201ccitizenship-identifying records\u201d from the Social Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security databases. <\/p>\n<p>LaRose\u2019s office also seeks access to federal district court records \u201cdisclosing individuals disqualified from jury service due to a lack of United States citizenship.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The move to ensure only U.S. citizens are voting in Ohio elections comes amidst President Biden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/border-invasion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">manufactured invasion<\/a> at the U.S. southern border and growing concerns that foreign nationals could exploit <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/13\/without-the-save-act-the-only-thing-keeping-foreigners-from-voting-is-the-honor-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">existing election loopholes<\/a> to influence America\u2019s electoral system. While largely dismissed as a non-issue by legacy media, the problem of noncitizens frequenting state voter rolls and casting ballots in U.S. elections is anything but. <\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/publicinterestlegal.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Boston-Noncitizen-Report-2024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new report<\/a> by the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF), for example, disclosed data from Boston, Massachusetts, showing 70 voter registrations were recently canceled due to a lack of U.S. citizenship. Of those 70 canceled records, 22 had \u201cknown histories of voting.\u201d One of the files listed in the report involves an individual named \u201cFred,\u201d who disclosed that the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles registered him to vote \u2014 despite the fact he\u2019s a \u201cgreen card holder and not a citizen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Massachusetts is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncsl.org\/elections-and-campaigns\/automatic-voter-registration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">one of several states<\/a> that employ <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/automatic-voter-registration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">automatic voter registration<\/a>, in which individuals are registered at state agencies such as the Department of Motor Vehicles. AVR has produced <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/09\/05\/with-automatic-voter-registration-say-hello-to-permanent-democrat-power\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bloated (and inaccurate)<\/a> voter rolls in states where it\u2019s been implemented and is often exploited by left-wing groups to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/04\/19\/automatic-voter-registration-exists-to-keep-democrats-in-power-so-why-arent-republicans-fighting-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">boost<\/a> Democrats\u2019 electoral prospects. <\/p>\n<p>Prior PILF reports have also unearthed the pervasive number of noncitizens on Arizona voter rolls. In February, the group <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/22\/report-186-now-removed-arizona-voter-roll-names-were-foreign-nationals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">revealed<\/a> that 186 foreign nationals residing in Pima County had been \u201cinvoluntarily purged\u201d from the Grand Canyon State\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-democrats-h-r-1-is-a-power-grab-would-undermine-states-election-rules\/\" title=\"Republicans: Democrats\u2019 H.R. 1 Is a Power Grab, Would Undermine States\u2019 Election Rules\">voter registration lists<\/a> since 2021. A <a href=\"https:\/\/publicinterestlegal.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Maricopa-AZ-Noncitizen-Report-2023-FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">separate PILF report<\/a> released last year found that 222 residents of Maricopa County, Arizona had been removed from voter rolls since 2015 for being foreign nationals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Laws_permitting_noncitizens_to_vote_in_the_United_States\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Democrat-led cities<\/a> in states such as Maryland and California have adopted measures in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/foreign-nationals-arent-just-voting-in-san-francisco-elections-theyre-running-them-too\/\" title=\"Foreign nationals are not only voting but also running elections in San Francisco\">recent years permitting noncitizen voting<\/a> in their municipal elections.
