Despite paying $2.5 \u200cbillion in penalties\u200d and pledging safety enhancements,\u2063 families\u2062 impacted by \u200dthe tragedies felt\u2062 justice was lacking. Recent\u200b developments spurred them to appeal for the agreement&#8217;s \u2063termination in a meeting with the Biden \u2063administration.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Department of Justice has alerted Boeing that the airline manufacturer breached terms of its 2021 deferred prosecution agreement, which saw Boeing protected from criminal prosecution after two 737 Max accidents in 2018 and 2019 that killed 346 people. Those <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/would-you-want-to-live-in-californias-next-disney-themed-subdivision\/\" title=\"Would You Want To Live In California\u2019s Next Disney-Themed Subdivision?\">accidents occurred<\/a> on an October 2018 Lion Air 737 Max flight and a March 2019 Ethiopian Airlines 737 Max flight.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The 2021 agreement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usdoj-media\/criminal\/media\/1212261\/dl?inline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stated,<\/a> \u201cThe Company agrees that, effective as of the date it signs this Agreement, in any prosecution that is deferred by this Agreement, it will not dispute the Statement of Facts set forth in this Agreement.\u201d It added:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em>This Agreement is effective for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nigeria-bans-uk-canada-saudi-arabia-in-revenge-for-omicron-travel-block\/\" title=\"Nigeria Bans UK, Canada, Saudi Arabia in Revenge for Omicron Travel Block\">period beginning<\/a> on the date on which the Information is filed and ending three years from that date (the \u201cTerm\u201d). The Company agrees, however, that, in the event the Fraud Section determines, in its sole discretion, that the Company has knowingly violated any provision of this Agreement or has failed to completely perform or fulfill each of its obligations under this Agreement, an extension or extensions of the Term may be imposed by the Fraud Section, in its sole discretion, for up to a total additional time period of one year.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Boeing paid $2.5 billion in penalties after the 2021 agreement with a promise it would improve safety and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/brace-for-impact-some-of-the-craziest-bills-california-legislators-proposed-this-session\/\" title=\"Brace For Impact: Some of the Craziest Bills California Legislators Proposed This Session\">compliance protocols<\/a>, but families victimized by the two crashes felt that justice had not been done. After recent events, they met with the Biden administration last month to urge ending the 2021 agreement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Those events included an Alaska Airlines flight losing a door plug in January. In late February, the Federal Aviation Administration issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/02\/26\/business\/aviation-safety-panel-finds-boeing-culture-included-safety-gaps-fear-of-retaliation\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> criticizing Boeing that stated it did not find \u201cobjective evidence of a foundational commitment to safety that matched Boeing\u2019s descriptions of that objective.\u201d The report also declared that some employees at Boeing were reticent to speak of safety concerns because they feared retaliation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cFor failing to fulfill completely the terms of and obligations under the [deferred prosecution agreement], Boeing is subject to prosecution by the United States for any federal criminal violation of which the United States has knowledge,\u201d the Justice Department informed US District Judge Reed O\u2019Connor in Fort Worth, Texas, who supervised the 2021 agreement.
