Bob Menendez\u2019s<\/a> (D-NJ) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/crime\/3001819\/bob-menendez-corruption-trial-everything-to-know\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"bribery trial\">bribery trial<\/a> over the past two days, pushing\u00a0a New York <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/courts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez's\">federal court\u2019s<\/a> efforts to seat a jury into its third day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Menendez spent most of Tuesday sitting by himself at a defense table as jurors who claimed they could not serve were interviewed by\u00a0Judge Sidney H. Others claimed they had heard about the bribery trial and could not be impartial.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a news junkie, and I\u2019ve learned about the case already significantly. I knew it was Bob Menendez the second I walked in,\u201d one juror said.<\/p>\n<p>Stein said most people had heard of Menendez\u00a0before asking if the juror could still decide the case based on trial testimony. The\u00a0juror, identified only by number, said he could, <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/bob-menendez-jury-selection-corruption-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"according\u00a0to\">according\u00a0to<\/a> the\u00a0<em>Associated Press<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Menendez, 70, has been charged with bribery, extortion, fraud, and obstruction of justice, along with acting as a foreign agent of Egypt.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Sen. (AP Photo\/Stefan Jeremiah)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Prosecutors allege he took bribes of cash, gold, and a luxury\u00a0car in exchange for using his considerable political influence to help secure military\u00a0sales for Egypt and to promote\u00a0Qatari interests.<\/p>\n<p>He is also charged with accepting gold, cash, and gifts, including a Mercedes-Benz convertible for his wife, from a New Jersey real estate developer\u00a0in exchange for the senator to have unrelated federal bank charges against the real estate agent go away.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Menendez has since stepped down as chairman of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee but has not resigned from Congress.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\" title=\"CLICK HERE FOR MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER \">CLICK HERE FOR MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER <\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is a list of high-profile politicians\u00a0that could be called to the stand, including Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Cory Booker (D-NJ), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Stein said Tuesday.
