The\u200c Republican National Committee criticized Biden&#8217;s actions as an election tactic, questioning the effectiveness of the tariffs on China.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a> underscored his record with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/labor-unions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>labor union workers<\/a> as he announced new, higher tariffs on Chinese imports, including a 100% rate on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/electric-vehicles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>electric vehicles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m determined that the future of electric vehicles will be made in America by union workers,\u201d Biden told a crowd on Tuesday in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>White House<\/a> Rose Garden.<\/p>\n<p>Hurrying through his remarks, held under the threat of rain, Biden also criticized former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a> for his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/trade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>trade<\/a> policy, contending Trump\u2019s deal with China did not increase U.S. exports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, Trump and MAGA Republicans want across-the-board tariffs on all imports from all countries,\u201d he said. \u201cWell, that would drive up costs for families on an average of $1,500 per year each year. He simply doesn\u2019t get it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The incumbent additionally countered Republican complaints that Biden\u2019s proposals have workarounds, particularly through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mexico\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Mexico<\/a>, and would actually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/psaki-unfair-and-absurd-to-say-companies-would-raise-prices-in-response-to-tax-increases\/\" title=\"Psaki: \u2018Unfair and Absurd\u2019 To Say Companies Would Raise Prices in Response to Tax Increases\">raise consumer prices<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmericas can continue to buy \u2026 notwithstanding what the other guy says, buy any kind of car they want, whether it\u2019s gas or electric, or hybrid, but we\u2019re never gonna allow China to unfairly control the market for these cars, period,\u201d Biden said.<\/p>\n<p>When asked by a reporter about Trump claiming that China has been \u201ceating out lunch,\u201d Biden responded: \u201cHe\u2019s been feeding them a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/republican-national-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Republican National Committee<\/a>, among others, has scrutinized Biden\u2019s announcement as \u201can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/flagrantly-illegal-lawsuit-hits-biden-over-student-debt-cancellation\/\" title=\"\u2018Flagrantly Illegal\u2019: Lawsuit Hits Biden Over Student Debt Cancellation\">election year ploy<\/a>,\u201d arguing that if the president \u201cwas serious about protecting American jobs, he would repeal his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/poll-american-voters-reject-bidens-climate-agenda-want-reliable-affordable-domestic-energy\/\" title=\"Poll: American Voters Reject Biden\u2019s Climate Agenda \u2013 Want Reliable, Affordable Domestic Energy\u00a0\">electric vehicle mandate<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Biden\u2019s] announcement will have little effect on China, which already barely relies on the U.S. for its electric vehicle sales thanks to President Trump\u2019s existing\u00a0Section 301\u00a0tariffs,\u201d RNC spokesman Jake Schneider told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>The White House earlier announced Biden had directed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/ustr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>U.S. Trade Representative<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/katherine-tai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Katherine Tai<\/a> to use Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 to hike tariffs on $18 billion of imports from China.
