Biden&#8217;s outreach efforts, including events and ad campaigns, highlight\u2062 recognition \u200bof this crucial voting bloc.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a> and former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump <\/a>could be leaving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/asian-americans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Asian American<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/native-hawaiians\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Native Hawaiian<\/a>, and Pacific Islander votes on the table before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>November\u2019s election<\/a>, according to Asian American advocacy groups.<\/p>\n<p>With the country\u2019s Asian American population and voter participation rate increasing exponentially, the groups are encouraging both campaigns to reach out to the community they represent.<\/p>\n<p>Asian Americans form one of the fastest-growing demographics, second only to \u201ctwo or more races,\u201d increasing by 81%\u00a0or a record 18.9 million people between 2000 and 2019, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/content\/dam\/Census\/library\/publications\/2020\/demo\/p25-1144.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>2020 Census<\/a>. Asian American voter turnout also <a href=\"https:\/\/targetsmart.com\/the-unprecedented-impact-of-the-aapi-vote-on-the-2020-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>increased by 47% in 2020<\/a>, in comparison to 2016, per TargetSmart, a political data analysis firm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEventually, the political establishment will catch up with that important demographic trajectory,\u201d Suffolk University Political Research Center director David Paleologos told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Simultaneously, <a href=\"https:\/\/apiavote.org\/policy-and-research\/asian-american-voter-survey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>only half of Asian American voters<\/a> were contacted by either Democrats or Republicans in the year before the 2022 midterm elections, according to Asian\u00a0and Pacific Islander\u00a0American<em> <\/em>Vote\u2019s Asian American Voter Survey from that cycle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVoter engagement by candidates and their campaigns is crucial in building the trust with the community needed to get your message to them,\u201d APIAVote policy and advocacy director Bob Sakaniwa told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cDoing so in language with the ethnic\u00a0media\u00a0and with trusted messengers who are part of the community is vital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sakaniwa cited Rep.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tom-suozzi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title> Tom Souzzi<\/a>\u2018s (D-NY) campaign to replace former Republican Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/george-santos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>George Santos<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/new-york\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>New York<\/a>\u2018s 3rd Congressional District as \u201ca good illustration of effective outreach to the community.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Eighteen percent] of the NY-03 electorate is AAPI, which both campaigns understood,\u00a0and while the [Republican Mazi] Pilip\u2019s campaign did use in-language phone calling and social\u00a0media, the Suozzi campaign used trusted surrogates like nearby Rep. [Grace] Meng, in-language mailers, and phone banking to better effect,\u201d Sakaniwa said. \u201cThe bottom line is that the community needs to be met where they are, in language by known, trusted messengers, and this takes a lot of groundwork.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Terry Ao Minnis, vice president of census and voting programs for Asian Americans Advancing Justice, previewed another APIAVote Asian American Voter Survey this summer \u201cthat will help identify the issues most important to Asian American voters and if contact by either political party has increased.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat Asian Americans need to see is attention to our issues within candidates\u2019 campaigns and an increase in the availability of in-language voter materials,\u201d Minnis told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>David Lee, a San Francisco State\u00a0University political science professor and the Chinese American Voters Education Committee\u2019s executive director, said Asian American voters will be particularly pivotal in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/nevada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Nevada<\/a>, adding that the community tends not to register with a party, so it cannot take part in every primary election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Asian community tends to vote in general elections, presidential elections, that\u2019s when you\u2019ll tend to see them participate and you\u2019ll probably likely see high numbers there,\u201d Lee told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cNone of the presidential campaigns have done a great job reaching out to AAPI voters. I think there\u2019s a lot of opportunities with the Asian vote. That\u2019s really up for grabs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a tight race like this, where swing states like Nevada and other states with large Asian populations, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/michigan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Michigan<\/a>, it\u2019s a missed opportunity to ignore this large and fast-growing voting bloc,\u201d he continued. \u201cIt\u2019s a voting bloc that\u2019s sizable enough to swing an election, a tight election, and, if you look at the swing states, Asians can make a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Biden campaign remains confident in its Asian American voter outreach strategy, with the president hosting an Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander History Month event at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>White House<\/a> on Monday. There, in the Rose Garden, he underscored his racial equity executive order, his Asian American presidential advisory commission, his Asian American White House initiative, and his Asian American national strategy, in addition to his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/economy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>economic<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/immigration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>immigration<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/environment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>environment<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/healthcare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>healthcare<\/a> policies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll never forget him lying about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>pandemic<\/a>,\u201d Biden told a crowd of Trump. \u201cI\u2019ll never forget the rise of anti-Asian hate crimes during the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFolks, my predecessor wants a country just for some of us,\u201d he said. \u201cWe want a country for all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden is additionally scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies\u2019s 30<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Annual Gala on Tuesday in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/washington-dc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Washington, D.C.<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kamala-harris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Kamala Harris<\/a>, the first minority female vice president, whose Indian background is sometimes overshadowed by her black heritage, spoke at the conference Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to know that sometimes people will open the door for you and leave it open,\u201d Harris <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3001602\/kamala-harris-f-word-asian-voters-speech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"told the confab\">told the confab<\/a>. \u201cSometimes they won\u2019t, and then you need to kick that f***ing door down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In November 2023, the Biden campaign announced what it called the \u201clargest, earliest investment\u201d in Asian American paid media as part of a $25 million ad buy, with a TV spot, \u201cFamily Business,\u201d airing in the Phoenix market for three weeks, according to a spokeswoman.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Family Business | Biden-Harris 2024\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dw_bkPpsFls?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>That was supplemented by a six-week, $30 million static and digital ad buy in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, as well as national Asian American news outlets, such as the <em>Asian Journal<\/em> and <em>Korea Daily<\/em>, in March.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<div>\n<p data-video_id=\"S1KuJJl7s-Y\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Better and Better | Biden-Harris 2024\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/S1KuJJl7s-Y?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cBuys across all of our battlegrounds reflect the importance of voters in every state, while overindexing on high population AANHPI battlegrounds,\u201d the Biden campaign spokeswoman told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s campaign expressed similar confidence in its Asian American strategy, regardless of concerns about its lack of organizing and ground game this election season. Instead, the Trump campaign points to a January <a href=\"https:\/\/apnorc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/AAPI_November_topline_FINAL_2024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>AAPI Data\/AP-NORC poll<\/a> that found three of the top five issues for Asian American voters were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/inflation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>inflation<\/a>, the economy more generally, and immigration, concerns for which Biden\u2019s approval ratings have been poor, though other matters included environment and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/climate-change\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>climate change<\/a>, and healthcare reform, on which he perform better.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has been no bigger advocate for the AAPI community than President Trump, as he created an environment where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/race-and-diversity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>diversity<\/a>, equal opportunity, and prosperity were afforded to everybody,\u201d Trump campaign senior adviser Steven Cheung told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cAnyone who says otherwise is disgustingly using the AAPI community to play political games for their own benefit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe 2024 campaign is poised to build upon the strength and successes of Asian Americans during President Trump\u2019s first term to propel him to a historic second term victory,\u201d Cheung said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump risk missing out on Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander votes in the upcoming election, as highlighted by Asian American advocacy groups.
